Here is a fully tricked out specimen of the venerable Mossberg 500A workhorse slide action shotgun from the collection of one of our California friends. The 500 Mossberg, of course, is the tried and true standby slide action shotgun whose receivers are lightweight yet incredibly durable and reliable. Magazine capacity is 5 + 1 on 2 3/4 inch shells, or 4 + 1 for 3 inch Magnums. The star of this show is the 24 inch fully rifled and ported barrel that is also 3 inch capable and equipped with a cantilever Weaver type or picatinny optics base. Note the 16 vent porting system back of the muzzle, a taming system for anybody’s Magnum Slugs. Sitting atop the base is a brand new Nikko-Stirling Mountmaster 3x9x40 variable with Adjustable Objective front lens for quick resolution in heavy brush or on long open shots. Scope has mil-dot calibrations in the center of its duplex type crosshairs, and it is in Excellent Condition. If the buyer does not want the scope, we will gladly pay his freight and keep it. Stock and forend are Advanced Technologies brand with realtree camo. Buttstock measures correct 14 inch length of pull including the magnum grade recoil pad and pistol grip for diminished recoil and greater shooting stability. Forend is AT short stroke, only 6 inches overall length and professionally installed. AT 1-1/4 inch black nylon sling is also included, as the photos show. This shotgun shows only minimal surface wear, faint light streaking on the left side of the receiver and very faint operation whitening to the double blue steel slide arms. We classify it as Excellent finishwise, since less than 10 percent of its surfaces are affected by any contact evidence. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Weight empty, including the scope, is a well balanced, pleasant-shooting 9 pounds. Replacement price on a similar setup, hard to find in our area, is upwards of $600.00.
