Description:
From an astute West Tennessee Collector comes this attractive specimen of the Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Stainless, numbered model 64. Its light contour tapered barrel we know as the pencil barrel, whereas almost all Model 64s are heavy barrel. Production began in 1970, but by 1975 all 64 production was heavy barrel. From this specimen’s D430000 range serial number, it was manufactured in early 1973. The 64, of course, is a traditional double and single action revolver. Construction is entirely stainless, with the only exception of internal springs and the grips. Barrel is 4 inch light contour, pinned into the frame, with half moon serrated blade front sight and frame integral rear sight. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Smith & Wesson Special Caliber ammunition. The K frame Medium Stainless frame has always been strong enough to withstand +P Ammunition. Hammer is .265 serrated spur Satin Stainless, with matching serrated face trigger. Grips are original K Square Butt walnut service magna style, with matching serial number inside the right panel. Weight empty is 30 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger. Surface detractions on this revolver are moderate, with contact pecking on the trigger guard surface and grip frame butt, and scouring on the lower parts of the grip panels, but with relatively little holster buffing. We rate it as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is minimal, only a faint impress. Double action trigger pull is stiff but smooth and original, and the hammer travels 5 to 10 degrees on all six after the cylinder times into place. On single action, the hammer travels 20 degrees or more on all six after the cylinder times, and single action trigger pull gauges at a crisp 4 pounds with no felt creep. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a perfect .006. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal with the trigger relaxed; with the trigger fully depressed, however, there is no lateral movement whatsoever. This is only the third or fourth Pencil Barrel 64 to wander into our doors in the past 20 years; and probably one of fewer than 3 dozen we’ve had since their production began. We’re offering the specimen in the photos for only $ 489.00. 2% discount if payment is with USPS Money Order & Not Credit Card. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
