For some reason, Smith & Wesson made an extensive run of Model 629-1 Revolvers in July of 1987. The movie Robocop released that month, and that might explain increased demand during President Reagan's next-to-last year in office. This 629-1 Six Inch Stainless, product code 103606, has a number 7159 Special Order code on its box. It is standard 3-T Configuration, .500 Satin Stainless Target Hammer, and .400 Smooth Combat Satin Stainless Trigger. Grips are Pachmayr SN-L, appropriate for late 1980s with Lion Logo that Pachmayr added around 1984. Box is Very Good, with moderate scouring to its edges, and includes the never-completed blue Warranty Card, original instruction manual, and S&W Warranty Statement. Box includes the Nox paper and trigger stud with the insert. The revolver itself shows no visible surface detractions except for very faint whitening to the groove edges in the sight screws. Cylinder rotation marking is negligible. Roughness to the cylinder flute edges is original factory millwork. Cylinder face blacking is minimal. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap is moderate, a thin shallow crease that traverses about 3/4 of the width of the top strap. From our knowledge of this revolver's exclusive retail owner, it has been fired fewer than 100 rounds. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap is a perfect .006. Note that this revolver is fully traditional; square butt grip frame is serrated fore and aft, as the photos show. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent.
