Parker DH 12ga. - SKELETON BUTT PLATE, NICE PRICE!
Parker shotguns get interesting in the DH Grade, with nice game scene engraving, figured wood, elaborate checkering, and skeleton butt plate as standard. They made a lot of them, about 6300 with Titanic Steel barrels, so they are not hard to find. This gun, sn113132 circa 1902, is a well cared for Parker with excellent mechanics, factory original metal finishes, and ready to go for your trips afield or to the club for some clays games. The nice thing about owning a Parker like this one is you can use it without worrying about a little honest wear while you enjoy its use. Yet, it is a graded Parker that you can be proud of when comparing guns with your shooting pals. Care for the gun well and it will cost you not a dime to own, as it is priced well enough that you can use it and likely sell it for more than you paid years later. That is the way to own a fine Parker! The gun matches the factory specs in the Parker Gun Identification and Serialization book.
The 28" Titanic Steel barrels retain 85% factory blue, excellent bores, clear sharp lettering, no dents or major dings, choked IM/IM (.023/.025, can be altered to your specs for $75 per barrel), internal bore diameter of .729 right, .731 left (factory), minimum barrel wall thickness 30 thou right, 28 thou left, ribs tight and barrels ring true, barrels tight on breech face, 2 3/4" chambers, 3 remnants of light pits on left barrel (we can reblue barrels for $250 and they would look like new with no pits or marks, but they aren't that bad), a great set of factory original barrels.
The action retains 25% case color, clear sharp engraving (the early guns had really nicer engraving than some of the later ones), very good screws, action tight with lever left of center (our gunsmith can bring back to right of center for about $150), crisp double triggers, trigger guard a pleasant grey, mechanically excellent.
The wood is nicely figured with most of the finish remaining, excellent checkering, superb wood to metal fit, no cracks or repairs, light handling marks but no major marks or dings, 14 7/16" LOP to the skeleton butt plate, 1 9/16" drop at comb, neutral cast (can be bent to your specs within 14 days of purchase for about $200), really a nice looking set of wood. Great shootable dimensions and pretty too!
This fine Parker weighs in at 7 3/4lbs. on its #2 frame and balances delightfully between your hands, making it the perfect choice for a clays gun or heavy load bird gun. Recoil is greatly reduced with heavier framed guns. We considered doing a few things to pretty it up, like bluing the barrels and trigger guard and replacing the locking bolt to move the lever to the right, but the gun is solid as a rock the way it is and some guys prefer to get a gorgeous, natural Parker for a lot less money than one that has been "prettied up". So for you guys, this is your gun. If the gun appeals to you but you want it cleaned up, we can get that done for you, putting your Parker at the front of the line for the chosen services. Your choice! I would at least change the right barrel choke to something more open. Just let us know.
