Description: Photo shows a specimen of a once plentiful and popular hunting shotgun, the External Hammer or Rabbit Ear type double barrel, or side by side. This specimen comes to us from its original owner’s descendants in nearby Perry County, Tennessee. Manufacturer was Neumann Brothers Company, a French owned company in Liege, Belgium. Importer was probably one of the mail order firms like Sears Roebuck, before World War One plugged up the factories. Construction is Laminated Steel Barrels, with steel receiver, parts, and butt plate, with European Walnut buttstock and forend. Chambering is for Black Powder or similar load, 2 5/8 inch 12 gauge shells. This shotgun is Not designed to withstand pressures of modern ammunition. Barrels are 32 inch, originally full choke, marked Choke Bore. Muzzle diameters are both .710 - .715 vicinity. Wall thickness is .060 vicinity at the muzzle, and .180 vicinity at the chamber mouth. Ignition is external hammers against floating firing pins, neither pin appears to be spring loaded; they return to position by contact with the extractor. Hammers stand and triggers operate correctly. Finish is blued steel, with probably an ancient refinish since the lettering is somewhat weakend on the barrels and on the side plates. Buttstock and forend have been refinished, with some shellac residue visible on the tang. Forend has a pair of two inch cracks at its rear, but the forend iron attaches and detaches correctly. Buttstock length of pull is 14 inches from the forward / right tube trigger to the center of the steel butt plate. Weight empty is 8 pounds, 1 ounce, with center of gravity 6 inches forward of the receiver. Overall length is 48 1/2 inches. Buttstock does not show any cracks. Chambering and bores show moderate pitting from the chamber mouth for about 14 inches forward, bore is good toward the tubes. Breeching and unbreeching requires operation of the breech lever. Lockup is tight, with no play between receiver and barrels in firing position. Finish is a mixture of brown patina and blue, with a half dozen or so contact dimples. We rate this old Belgian shotgun as Good, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. We’re offering it for only $ 189.00. Not designed for modern ammunition. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $20 flat fee lower 48 states; $60 Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico, UPS Ground or USPS Priority with full insurance coverage.
