Serial number for this Smith & Wesson .38 Chief’s Special Stainless, numbered model 60 with no suffix, is R80,000 range, most likely part of 1972’s production. This specimen was full coverage engraved by one of only a half dozen West Tennesseans capable of the work, Mr. Lester Davis of Jackson, Tennessee, who has long retired. Only the front grip strap, lower front frame, and top of frame are not engraved, so we title it as 3/4 coverage. This revolver is perfect mechanically with no detractions either to the mechanism or to the finish. Grips are limited edition factory laminated Smith & Wesson from the mid 1980s. This particular revolver comes from the estate of one of our favorite traders, the late Mr. Sidney A. McDonald III, and the work was completed some time in the early 1980s. Replacement pricing on similar factory engraved models is $2,000 apiece or more. We’re offering this one, however, for only $ 1169.95.
