LG3039 From Russian ordnance houses where it has been carefully stored and re-stored now for 65 years comes this German Military 98 Mauser in 8x57 Mauser caliber in its original Laminated Military Stock with matching number cartouches, just like it was issued to the German Army in 1943. Manufacturer code bcd is above the chamber ring, Gustloff-Werke Weimar, with the date beneath. Serial number is 5000 bb range, correct for Gustloff production from 1943. Waffenamt and proof marks are intact, but there has been some remarking at two places on the bolt surface and once on the floorplate. Bolt as well was scribed with the matching receiver number by the Victorious Russian Armorers, and the steel surfaces have been reblued to a matte blue finish. Buttstock has been re-cartouched on its left side, as the photos show; and this may well have been done by the Germans. Waffenamt on the left side of the receiver ring is an original weak strike, but the center ring and left side barrel ones are clear and sharp, as the photos show. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are Very Good to excellent. We detect no visible pitting in the bore; just etchiness in the grooves at places. Stock has post refinish moderate weathering and scouring; other than its stock, this rifle will rate as Excellent Refinish. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Note that importer’s marks, are on the left side of the barrel next to the rear sight, R-Guns, C’ville, Il.
