Only Singer made fewer 1911-A1s during WWII (15,000 pistols). This particular pistol is in Good original condition. The 80% gray Parkerizing finish shows handling and firing wear from combat use. The barrel is an original High Standard, This weapon is in the 108xxxx serial number range and has the P proof mark in front of the rear sight and just below the magazine release. The inspector's stamp, (RCD in a circle) is high on the frame, just below the takedown lever; this inspector's mark is partially obscured where the takedown lever has mad a large scrape in the finish but it is still visible. The USS trademark as well as "U S & S CO", above "SWISSVALE, PA" is on the left side of the slide. On the top of the frame, reading from the rear in capitols is "UNITED STATES PROPERTY, M 1911 A1 US ARMY" above "No 108xxxx" the small o following the Capitol N is underlined with the underline even with the H's crossbar. This is one of the hardest 1911A1s to find as the price reflects. I purchased it from the deceased veteran's son who said his father carried it in the Army (possibly Army Air Corps) as he enlisted in the Infantry and transferred to the Army Air Corps.
