This is one of the first S- prefix D Frame Colts from the first year of that issue, and quite likely one of the first D snubs with full shroud or full lug barrel. This is an all original 2 inch blue Detective Special with factory issue walnut stocks, manufactured in 1978. This revolver comes to us from our old friend Bruce Burgess in Kentucky. Accidental surface wear is negligible, only a faint amount of spotting on the never-blued brushed steel sides of the hammer and negligible weakness to any of the surface’s sharp edges. Its chief detraction is not visible at all unless one opens the cylinder and sees a former owner’s – definitely not Bruce’s – social security number on the lower flat inside of the frame above the trigger. Consequently, we rate this Detective as a strong Very Good, close to Excellent, and less than 10 percent of the surfaces are affected by any detractions as the photos show. This Detective is Excellent mechanically. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is negligible, a faint short impress in the center only of the top strap. Few if any +P loads have been fired through this Colt. Double action trigger pull is characteristically Colt smooth, and the cylinder times correctly in all six positions with no lateral play whatsoever. Bore, cylinder chambers and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent.
