Here is a specimen of what Remington began calling the 870 Home Defense. It is a matte blue finish 870 Express with durable black DuPont synthetic stock and forend. Buttstock length of pull is 13 5/8 inches, including a rather massive 1 inch thick recoil pad. Barrel is 18 inch cylinder bore beadsight that handles 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells interchangeably. Magazine capacity is 4 + 1 on 2 3/4 inch; or 3 + 1 on 3 inch magnums. This is a police shotgun, well maintained and much carried. Surface detractions are principally light contact scouring on the buttstock, with faint amounts of light scouring on the sides of the receiver. We rate it as Very Good, since no more than 20 percent of its surfaces are affected in our estimation. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice so that our distinguished shoppers can judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Overall length is only 38 1/4 inches; weight empty is 7 pounds. Operation streaking to the shell carrier, bolt surface, and slide arms is minimal; we estimate that this shotgun has been fired fewer than 300 rounds. Replacement pricing on the 870 Home Defense type shotguns is upwards of $500 apiece in our area. We’re offering this one, however, for only $ 269.95.
