Description: Holland & Holland take-apart Mauser .300 H&H Magnum with case. Serial 653 (circa 1922). Round tapered 24.75-inch barrel engraved “Holland & Holland 98 New Bond St. London”. Shank is engraved “Holland’s Super .30 Bore Rifle. London nitro proofs are stamped beside the matted quarter rib with one fixed and two folding-leaf express sights; the rear marked “220 GRS”, the fixed marked 50 and 200, and the front marked 350. Barrel also features banded sling eye and front sight ramp holding a fine silver bead. Standard length Mauser 98 action has been “opened up” to accept the longer cartridge and has a stippling on the rings. It has also been drilled and tapped for scope mounts. The bolt handle has been reconfigured for scope use, the checkered knob bent outward and drilled with lightening hole in traditional Holland & Holland fashion. Flag safety has been gold inlaid “SAFE”, visible from the left when vertical (on safe). The barreled action takes down (take apart) by the simple removal of large-headed front guard screw which is slotted to accept a coin. The barreled action tips up and out of the stock, with the rear tang stud secured in place by the rear guard screw. Steel bottom metal has hinged floorplate retained by small button in trigger guard bow. Serial is engraved on the thinned and shaped trigger bow. European walnut stock has good fiddleback and a traditional pancake cheek piece. LOP is 13.75-inches over a solid brown Pachmayr basket-weave pad. Stock is fitted with steel grip cap with trap door, recoil bolt, sling eye and a vacant silver oval on the toe line. Point pattern checkering with Mullered borders. Drops are 1.5 and 2.5 inches from the top of the receiver, and cast off is approximately .5 inch. Weight is 8.2 pounds. Leather rifle case is lined in green cloth and has reproduction Holland & Holland label in lid. Condition is very good as refinished. Bore is very good. All metal parts retain nearly all of a fine rust blue, with a few light scratches and minor marks. Bolt body and follower are polished bright. Stock retains nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish, with some light marks and fine refreshed checkering. Hairline cracks at tip of forearm and butt. Action is smooth. Case leather is dark, scuffed and cracked, and the former owner's name has been removed from the outer lid. Also missing are a couple of leather corners. The handle is good, but the binding straps are absent. Interior cloth is good, but shows some patching and movement of partitions. Price firm. Layaway considered. Photo package by request.
