In the early days of wide-open, or wider open, deer hunting here in West Tennessee, late Carter / early Reagan years, the .41 Magnum was one of only three legal calibers for deer hunting with handguns. That well deserved place was largely won by this revolver's immediate ancestors, the Ruger New Model Blackhawk .41 Magnum in 4 5/8 inch barrel with lightweight grip frame and adjustable sights. The caliber had fairly good poll numbers anyway to a wide audience beyond die-hard Smith & Wesson enthusiasts. Since it has always weighed in at a modest 2 1/2 pounds, this is the reigning lighter weight full house big bore magnum, and we will put it up against anybody's Taurus Tracker any day. Even the most casual student of magnum revolvers knows that the Ruger will withstand far more PSIs than the Taurus. And we will go further: the Ruger Blackhawk is a better, simpler combat handgun. For best results, add a set of our Pachmayr RBH grips.
