Description: L.C. Smith Specialty 16ga.- 1 of 691 made- FANTASTIC WOOD, BEAVERTAIL

I get to see many fantastic vintage American double shotguns each year, and every once in a while one really stands out. The L.C. Smith is the only truly successful full sidelock shotgun from the heyday of the American double. They have always enjoyed avid collector interest, but in the last 2 years the “Elsie” has become more sough after, and hence, more valuable. This Specialty Grade 16 bore, snFWE72966, is one that really stands out. They made few of the Specialty in 16ga., 691 in all, but this one has some of the nicest wood I have seen on a Specialty.

The 28” barrels retain 95% blue, mirror bores, choked IC/F (.010/.030), internal bore diameter of .649 right barrel,.648 left barrel, minimum barrel wall thickness of 36 thousandths both barrels, no dents or dings, just light handling marks, 2 9/16” chambers (chambers and forcing cones can be lengthened for $150, but not necessary in order to shoot 2 ¾” shells. If you don’t know why, ask.), ejectors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge, ribs are tight and barrels ring true, ivory front bead, all in great shape.

The receiver retains 30% fading case color, good screws, double triggers with good crisp pulls, clear, sharp engraving, trigger guard retains 96% niter blue, action tight with lever right of center, no pits, featherweight frame, everything in excellent mechanical order.

The wood is fully figured with lots of feather crotch and marbling, sharp checkering, capped pistol grip, skeet style beavertail forend, no splits or cracks, 98% finish, 14 1/8” LOP to butt plate, 2 1/8” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb for great dimensions (stock can be bent to your dimensions and/or lengthened with a pad for a small additional cost), just a beautiful stick of wood. It is almost universal that guys and gals alike love beautiful wood, and often pay thousands of dollars to upgrade their guns. Certainly in the vintage gun market, better wood equals more value and a much faster sale. I would guess this gun will sell very quickly because of the select walnut the factory used on this gun.

This gun is a fine gun for upland game or clays, with chokes that are set up for very versatile shooting. Chokes can be altered to your specs for $55.00 per barrel. Weighing in at 6lbs. 15oz. and balanced just forward of the hinge pin, it comes to point very smoothly. This is a gun for the modern shooter with beauty, high stock dimensions, ejectors, and is an investment quality shotgun that will continue to increase in value.

I have more photos upon request. There is a 30 day mechanical warranty on this gun. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE. When viewing my ad, just click on the line “see all items from this seller” and a great list of collectible and sporting arms will appear. I have many double shotguns not yet listed, so just ask if you don’t see what you are looking for. Thanks for looking!
