Very Heavy Barrel, Percussion Target Rifle Guns > Rifles > Antique (Pre-1899) Rifles - Perc. Misc.
Description: These very heavy target rifles from the 1800s were sometimes referred to as "Log Rifles". Because of their weight, the shooter needed to rest them on a log to shoot. The rifled bore is 45 cal. The maker's name, Thomas Loar, is shown in deep cut script atop the barrel. The front sight, stock tip, double set trigger guard, action escutcheon and butt plate are all brass. The barrel is 37" long. The octagon barrel, at the muzzle measures 1 1/4". Weight approximately 14 lbs. Under the barrel is mounted a wooden ram The lock tumbler likely needs lube or perhaps a bit of work, in order to lock in the cocked position. I cut the price more than by half of what I have seen these rifles offered for. for more details and more photos. Ask all questions and I will endeavor to answer promptly. Of course, this Antique can be shipped anywhere in the US with no paperwork.
