The 1860 Army was adopted as U.S. government ordnance because of its lighter weight, improved balance, and superior ballistics. This 6-shot, .44 caliber, round-barrel percussion revolver became very popular with mounted troops and went on to be the issue side arm for the U.S. Army for many years. The gun had the Imitation Mexican Eagle Ivory grips factory installed at a cost of $205.oo.
