HG5711 Every once in a great while one of this revolver’s service mates shows up for sale. This is the first one we’ve had in many years. This is an I-frame Colt, same action as the legendary Python. Model is Official Police, and from its 912000 range serial number it was manufactured in 1966. Type is traditional single- and double action revolver, blue steel, 6 inch medium tapered barrel; square notch rear sight and blade front sight; capacity 6 rounds of .38 Special cartridges; serrated face service trigger and spurred service hammer; weight empty 36.6 ounces. This revolver served and protected our fellow Americans on duty with the Maryland State Police until that Department went to Magnums early in the 1970s. Holster wear is moderate, as the photos show. There is substantial moderate edge whitening, and a small amount of brown spotty freckling. Smooth surfaced backstrap was original so that the Department could stamp their name on that portion of the grip frame; the MSP Armorers, however, obliterated the Department markings when they traded these fine revolvers. The letters M and A are still visible, and acid would probably bring up the original stamping if someone wanted to go to the trouble of restoring this OP. We rate it as Very Good finishwise, seventy five percent vicinity in our estimation. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Grips are period correct Sile Walnut Target. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Cylinder times correctly in all six positions on both double and single action. There is no lateral play to the cylinder when the trigger is fully depressed.
