Here is one of the last Marlins to be made in the old factory at North Haven Connecticut; serial number prefix is 02, manufactured in 1998. This is the heir to the old favorite, the classic Model 782. This particular rifle comes to us on a trade for some of our World War II Collectable Mausers from a Memphis School-teaching family. It has been well tended; apart from a faint amount of case contact whitening on its muzzle end and faint whitening on the rear blued area of the bolt body, we do not detect any surface detractions. The later Marlins, like this one, have a forward-fire movement safety lever. Barrel is 22 inch Micro-Groove, 20-groove blue steel with 1:16 right hand twist. Rear sight is Buckhorn style folder with stepped elevator and drift adjustable only for windage. Front sight is traditional Marlin Serrated Ramp style with blade. Receiver is 3/8 wide grooved and also drilled and tapped. The black synthetic stock shows no contact scouring, and this type stock has superb weather resistant qualities and the barrel and magazine channel do not exhibit pressure swells in damp weather, so accuracy will not be affected in those conditions. Weight empty is a center balanced 6 pounds. Magazine is an original factory Marlin 7 rounder, so 7 + 1 rounds capacity of any .22 Winchester Magnum caliber ammunition. We rate this rifle as Excellent finishwise, since less than 5 percent of its surface shows any use indicators; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. From our knowledge of its exclusive retail owners and from its condition, we estimate this Marlin has been fired fewer than 100 times. Replacement pricing on the Kentucky Made Marlins is upwards of $300 apiece in our area, and we would much rather have this one, no disrespect intended to our neighbors in Mayfield.
