We stand to be corrected on the Stevens provenance of this shotgun; it could very well be Iver Johnson or Crescent Arms; but its barrel taper and forend contours are very similar to Stevens shotguns. At any rate, this was one of the better grade shotguns from Volunteer Arms, with blued barrel, nickel receiver, and Walnut Stock and forend. It is serialized, #E629_ _ XE, and we estimate it was manufactured in the mid 1920s. We are not clear whether the chamber is 3 inch or 2 1/2 inch. A 3 inch shell will chamber, but we have not fired this shotgun. It is in quite good condition for its age; Nickel plating on the receiver is about 75 percent intact, as the photos show; and the barrel is a nice aged combination of blue, brown patina, and gun metal gray. Buttstock and forend have undergone refinishing, some time in the 1940s or 1950s, and buttplate is replacement Winchester. Note that the buttstock has undergone a repair on the forward right upper tang area; and perhaps the chamber photos will show the two pits at 8 o'clock and 10 o'clock at the extreme forward edge of the chamber. Otherwise, bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent; and this little .410 is sound throughout. It migrated to West Tennessee from us Southerners' former National Capital, Richmond, Virginia, in the hands of its owner, an octogenarian World War II Navy Veteran.
