Browning Superposed Midas 20g - MINT, NO SALT, LOUIS BLEUS ENGRAVED
What a gorgeous gun Browning made in the Midas Grade. Deeply chiseled scroll and game scenes, with 7 gold bird inlays, gold wire inlays, barrel wedge engraved at the breech, and gorgeous wood. This gun, sn54754v9 built in 1969, is in near new condition with over 99% factory finishes on all wood and metal. The gun has been properly tested and inspected and there is no salt contamination in the wood. This is not to be confused with the Superposed made after 1977, in which nearly all of the engraving was done with acid etching. This is one of the original, hand built, hand engraved Midas Grades, signed by engraver Louis Bleus employed by FN/Browning as a full time engraver. Not a common gun either, with less than 500 20ga. guns made between 1964 and 1977. Condition, rarity, and desirability does an investment quality firearm make, and this gun qualifies in all areas. This is the Midas Skeet configured gun, with the Skeet style beavertail, 26 3/8" barrels choked SK/SK. Stocked with dynamite feather crotch wood, she is a beautiful gun for your close range hunting and of course you clays games as well.
The 26 3/8" Special Steel barrels retain 99.5% factory blue, 2 3/4" chambers, mirror bores, clear lettering, no dents, dings, or pits, choked .004/.005, bore diameter .621 both barrels, minimum barrel wall thickness 39 thou botttom, 38 thou top, tight ribs, double white beads, strong well timed ejectors, a great set of barrels.
The action retains 99.5% dark blue, deeply hand engraved with gold birds and wire inlays, non-auto safety, Single Selective Trigger that breaks crisply at 5.25lbs. bottom, 6.25lbs. top, action tight with lever right of center, engraved by Louis Bleus, trigger guard 99.9% and deeply engraved as well, all in perfect mechanical order.
The well figured wood has just a few tiny handling marks on it, with 99% factory finish, clear sharp checkering, short tang, square knob, skeet style beavertail, LOP 14 1/2" to Browning factory pad, 1 3/4" drop at heel, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 1/8" cast off (can be bent to your specs within 14 days of purchase), no cracks or repairs, superb wood to metal fit, again, all in perfect order.
The gun weighs 6lbs. 9oz. and balances dead on the hinge pin for a delightful feel in hand. Priced to sell quickly, it is a drop-dead gorgeous Superposed for those that like over/under guns. With so few made and fewer yet left in mint condition, this is a gun that should go up in value, as it is priced below market today.
