Description: This is model 1853 Sharps carbine known to collectors as the "John Brown Slanting Breech” Sharps. It is extremely rare and very collectible. This is the pattern of gun that was acquired by the famous abolitionist John Brown and used on his raid on Harpers Ferry October 16-18, 1859. The barrel is stamped Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Co., Hartford, Connecticut. Lockplate is stamped Sharps Patent 1852. Upper tang is stamped Sharps Patent 1848 along with the serial number 18,823.Total production numbered around 10,500. The lands and grooves in the bore are clearly visible with minor pitting. The rear sight intact, saddle bar and ring, along with the brass hardware. This carbine is very scarce and you won't find many listed especially at this price and condition.
