Here is a former Pietta 1858 Remington New Army Black Powder Revolver that Mr. Walt Kirst has expertly converted to a fine figure of a cowboy action revolver with his engineering expertise. Herr Kirst’s conversions are, he writes, precision CNC machined in the USA from 4140 Steel and heat-treated, and this revolver is designed for lower velocity, lower pressure cowboy action loads in .45 Colt Caliber, like our Winchester X45CP2 loads in the 800 feet per second velocity range. This revolver was manufactured in 2009 and converted only last year; we traded for it from one of our Kansas friends who maintains his firearms very, very well. It has been fired fewer than 50 times, and its bore, chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Its only surface detractions are from milling work on the right side of the frame, and its owner did not order a rebluing job to the frame. Barrel length is 5 1/2 inches; action is Single Action only. These fine revolvers, like the Ruger Blackhawks, should be operated with a brisk deliberate cocking motion for correct timing. Cylinder capacity is 6 rounds of .45 Colt, or Long Colt as many of us call it, ammunition, no +P ammunition, nothing approaching 1000 feet per second velocity specs. The original base revolver is an all blue steel correct and authentically designed Pietta Italian Revolver with brass trigger guard and genuine Italian walnut grip panels. Trigger and hammer are color casehardened for strength and beauty. Replacement pricing on this revolver is $500 or more, if a person can even find one.
