According to Mr. Fjiestad the Li’l Champ Rifles bearing Iver Johnson name were introduced in 1986, almost immediately discontinued, and then resurrected for a 1988 run only. That sounds right to our poor memory. All the ones we sold new back then had brown synthetic stocks. This one’s is black. From its 6013000 range serial number, it was among the 13000 rifles produced during the first year of 1986, delivered for Christmas shopping. The manufacturing facility at Jacksonville, Arkansas, just North of Little Rock was quite a distance from the Daisy Plant at Rogers, but construction on these little Iver Johnsons was too similar to be accidental. Construction is cast steel bolt body with nickel plated pot metal bolt handle; steel barrel liner inside a pot metal black enamel finish housing, with polymer trigger and trigger guard, and some steel internal parts. Stock, as the photos show, is black polymer. This little rifle only weighs 3 pounds. Barrel is 16 inches, step elevator rear with sliding screw windage adjustment, aligned with the pot metal shroud’s blade front sight. Overall length is only 32 inches, but with a quite long 13 1/4 inch length of pull from the trigger face to the end of the buttplate. This specimen shows moderate wear, more from storage than from actual hunting. The family that owned it were city dwellers, not hunters. Surface detractins are moderate, mostly edge graying to the barrel shroud at the muzzle and around the rear sight, with toning to the nickel plating on the bolt. We rate this Li’l Champ as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Mechanically, it is as good as it ever was. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all clean and operable. This is a somewhat scarce little rifle.
