The octagon barrel is 26 inches in length, bore is excellent (see photo). You can still see tooling marks from when it was rifled at the factory in 1892. There looks to be some mild wear back in the throat area, seems to be standard with the old 1886s. Sights are correct #21 front and #22 flat top sporting rear with thumb style elevator. Barrel and receiver still have strong areas of original blue, call it 50% mixed with a nice even plum blue patina. Receiver is tight and locks up solid, feeds, chambers and ejects smoothly. The wood is solid and tight, no chips, cracks heavy dents or extra holes. I rate the wood very good+. Overall a very nice vintage 1886 in the much sought after 45-70 caliber, excellent bore, very good wood and no issues with the rifle. This will be a fine shooter!
