For twelve years now we have grieved and sometimes cursed over Colt's discontinuance of the Mustang and .380 Government series pistol. Now we can stop it. No other company besides Sig could credibly reintroduce the Mustang, and they have performed the feat. Here is what the factory says about their latest addition: The P238 is built on an anodized alloy beavertail style frame with fluted aluminum grips for comfort and a secure hold during rapid fire usage. The matte blue steel slide features the popular Sig Sauer slide serrations and improves overall performance and accuracy. When Sig says, The sear and trigger return spring are redesigned to prevent spring over ride of the ejector during assembly, the word redesigned has to refer to engineering refinement of the Mustang, since the specimen in the photo is part of the first production run. Mustang, Government, and Plus Two Magazines fit perfectly. The 15.2 ounce empty weight is on par with the Mustang. Since the Mustang was always incredibly accurate, we expect no less from its Sig descendant. Note, too, that the Sig has a metal guide rod, stainless in fact, where the Colt Mustang had a plastic one. Barrel length is 2 3/4 inches, same as the Mustang. Since the grip frame is longer than the Mustang's on the backstrap area, the grip panels are slightly wider as well. The little Sig has a trigger-activated firing pin block safety, in addition to the main safety. One disconcerting feature from the Mustang survives in its descendant, the fact that the Sig's hammer will fall from the half-cock position, much in the same way as the Colt. Of course that does not make the pistol fire. This one is in Sig's durable Nitron finish. It has Nitron matte finished Steel slide, guide rod, slide stop, safety lever, magazine release and Magazine, while the frame and trigger are black anodized finish. Barrel and hammer, and many internal parts, are all blue steel. Sights are three dot contrast type.
