As evidenced by the serial number, this is not some cut-down shotgun but was purpose built by the factory as a personal defense weapon. The indicia "MOD. 37" appears on the upper left side of the synthetic pistol grip. Selling from my personal collection. The well know Class 3 dealer I purchased this weapon from described it as being in new condition, however, since I'm not the original owner I can't state that with absolute certainty. It appears to be in close to new condition with just a few light handling marks and some minor friction wear from actuating the slide. There is no rust, pitting and the bore is mirror bright. The finish on the receiver is about perfect ( any apparent blemishes in the photos are due to either oil on the surface or reflected light ). These scarce 20 gauge model Stake-Outs are very easy to handle due to both their light weight and low recoil -- thus they've always been popular with smaller shooters or one who wants some thing very light and quick-pointing. Although the outward appearance of the 20 gauge Stake-Out is similar to the 12 gauge model there is an immediately perceptible difference in handling characteristics that must be felt to be truly appreciated. Because Ithaca produced significantly fewer 20 gauge Stake-Outs than their larger 12 gauge brothers, the 20 gauge models command a premium. Finding a 20 gauge Stake-Out is difficult...finding one in true collector grade condition is nearly impossible ! The Ithaca Stake-Out 20 gauge model features; a 13.25" barrel and is only 22.5" in overall length, light-weight alloy receiver, Mil-Spec grey manganese phosphate finish on barrel with a black matte epoxy-type finish on the receiver, black synthetic checkered pistol grip, black ribbed wood forend w/ black nylon grip retention strap and integral grip retention strap brackets built into forend ( just like on the 12 gauge model ), bottom loading and ejection, magazine tube w/ capacity of four 2.75" shells ( plus one in the chamber ) and the duo rear sling swivels allow for the installation of a shoulder strap.
