From the estate of our favorite local Korean War Veteran comes this well preserved Springfield Armory Military Issue M-1 Garand. Its 3,692,000 range serial number dates its production to the final month of World War II, April 1945. Trigger group, barrel, and receiver are all Springfield Armory and so marked; and the bolt is H&R, 528000 range number. Finish is completely original; in fact, the only alien marking is where the Importer, Arlington Ordnance of Arlington, VA, very faintly stamped the right side of the barrel’s forward area. Surface detractions on the metal are principally on the gas tube assembly, where there is extensive whitening around the muzzle area. Front sight exhibits brown toning on its sides, and the sling hardware exhibits extensive side whitening. For the most part, however, metal finish is quite good on the receiver. Stock has extensive surface scouring, more heavy on the forend area as the photos show. We rate this Garand as Good, perhaps even Very Good, 65 to 70 percent vicinity by our estimate; photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore is Very Good: rifling is sharply defined all the way from the chamber to the muzzle crown, and we do not detect any pitting or roughness in the bore. Mechanism and chamber are bright, clean, and excellent. This rifle was among only a few we received in the late 1980s with Arlington Ordnance stamping, and its late owner here in neighboring Madison County, Tennessee, was its exclusive US Civilian owner until we got it from his Estate recently. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
