This old revolver is a bit striking because of its home domicile for the past century and a half, Middle Tennessee, Perry County. We wish we knew how it got there, and a bit more of its history. The Port of Perryville was one of the liveliest points on the Tennessee River during the Postwar Years, and most likely this revolver landed there. Serial number on this one-line-New-York-addressed 1849 Colt is 288000 range, all matching, manufactured in 1866. This revolver is all original, brown patina mixed with gun metal gray. With the exception of some residual polishing, as well as a replacement wedge pin screw, it is all original. It is not functional, but could readily be made so, since the hammer and trigger are intact. The loading arm and its piston still show some original bluing, and there is a faint amount of nickel left on the brass of the grip frame near the trigger guard. Cylinder chamber and bore pitting are only moderate. Surface pitting and rust residue is also only moderate, with good letter visibility. Frame sides and cylinder surfaces show about 10 percent pecking and scouring. We rate this old revolver as Good, perhaps 10 to 15 percent, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
