In 1956 Russia ended production of the SKS rifle at the Tula Arsenal. The Russians shipped the tooling to China along with technical advisors, who helped set up the manufacturing and training of the Chinese workers at Jianshe Arsenal (aka factory 26). Factory 26 rifles have a reputation of being the best manufactured with the highest quality control of all Chinese SKS rifles. Most SKS Chinese rifles in the Vietnam War came from Factory 26.
This is a Factory 26 Chinese SKS rifle Cal. 7.62x39. According to the serial number the rifle was manufactured at the Arsenal in 1965. Rifle has all stamped matching external parts: receiver, bolt, receiver cover, bolt carrier, magazine and trigger guard. Rifle has the early style gas tube and Russian style bolt carrier. Rifle shoots accurately to point of aim at 100 yards. Bore is bright with sharp lands. Has handling chip on stock and some light pitting on one side of barrel(see photos).It appears the rifle is in its original configuration as it left the factory in 1965.
