Description: This is a mint, as restored by Turnbull Restoration in October, 1995, Colt Single Action Army revolver in the rare long flute configuration. It is in .38 WCF (.38-40) with 4.75" barrel and two-piece ivory grips.

Kopec states that in April of 1913, Colt decided to use up surplus Model 1878 DA cylinders, as that model was discontinued in 1905. Record notations show the serial numbers (generally) started with 330001 and ended with 331479. The 1878 DA cylinders had long or "full" flutes and needed only to be milled for the SAA stop notches and approaches with the ratchet at the cylinder rear altered. Also, a half-length cylinder bushing was used so the '78 cylinder did not have to have the center hole drilled through. The 1500 (1478 plus a few later, out of serial range, guns) or so Long Flutes are also noted to be of finer finish not common in the 1913 to 1915 period. (A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver, 1976, Graham, Kopec & Moore)

This Colt is accompanied by a vintage, custom made, hand carved, rawhide laced, heavy leather holster, maker unknown.
