This is the only pump-action shotguns currently supplied to the US Armed forces via military contract. They are quite scarce because Mossberg is shipping all current production overseas in support of the war effort. The US military selected the 590A1 for service because it was the only shotgun to successfully pass the 30,000 round torture test without failure. These are the toughest, most reliable shotguns available ! The 590A1 has a 14.0" barrel and an overall length of only 24.0" making it easy to discretely carry. The alloy receiver comes pre-drilled and tapped for mounting a Havlin Sales picatinny optics rail ( for convenient mounting of lights and lasers ) and will also accept all Mossberg 500 compatible side mounted spare shell carriers and Mossberg 500 compatible pistol grips including the amazing recoil reducing Knoxx Industries ( now owned by Blackhawk ) Breachers Grip. Standard 590A1 features include; front and rear sling swivel studs, brass bead front sight, ergonomic forend with integral grip retention strap, a 3.0" magnum chamber, military spec heavy-wall barrel, military spec metal trigger guard and military spec metal safety selector switch ( commercial Mossberg 500s have plastic trigger guards, plastic safety switches and thin walled barrels ). The NFA classification for these shotguns is an AOW or Any Other Weapon. Having this definition means the 590A1 will transfer to you for only a $5.00 NFA tax ( versus a $200 transfer tax for a short Barreled shotgun ). The AOW category of NFA firearms is the last of the inexpensive NFA weapons -- but this may soon change. NFA transfer fees have not been increased since 1934. Given the current federal budget deficits, it is not unlikely that our tax hungry government will be dramatically increase NFA transfer fees after the Fall elections. Should that be the case there could be a huge surge in demand for AOWs pending passage of the legislation. This weapons is cosmetically and mechanically in factory new condition. It has not been displayed, handled or fired since leaving the factory. The original factory box is also in new condition with intact end label and contains the original owners manual and blank warranty registration card.
