This model was originally called the New Departure but is more commonly referred to as a "lemon squeezer". As the name would suggest, the hammer is not exposed and it has a grip safety; not terribly common on revolvers. It has a round, 3" barrel and about 85-90% of original nickel finish. There are a few places with light surface pitting. THIS IS THE "FIRST MODEL" AND SOMEWHAT RARE sn is 3257x i contacted S&W they said the mfgr year is 1883 ( 126 years old ) the serial numbers on the butt, cylinder and under the latch match The Grips are real mother of pearl and make this a beautiful gun.
