BREAKING: Gun Bills Already Back on the Table

in Authors, Paul Helinski

Already Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal has taken up the sword for new gun laws following the Elliot Rogers shooting. As we have warned several times, including this past week in a review of a new 2nd Amendment film, mental health is the Trojan Horse upon which the anti-gunners, and many pro-gun people, think we can find common ground. Such would be the case if the mental health profession wasn’t run by lockstep progressives and moonbats who only got into the profession to see if they could figure out what was wrong with them. Here is the quote from Blumenthal:

“Obviously, not every kind of gun violence is going to be prevented by laws out of Washington,” he said. “But at least we can make a start and I am going to urge that we bring back those bills, maybe reconfigure them, centre on mental health, which is a point where we can agree that we need more resources to make the country healthier and to make sure that these kinds of horrific, insane, mad occurrences are stopped.

Blumenthal, isn’t he the one who was a Marine reservist who served in Vietnam, but wait he suddenly realized when running for the senate he never had been in Vietnam. Oh silly him, such an easy thing to forget.

So just because I live in NY State and In 2002 I went through some real tough personal times, bankruptcy, a divorce, and a close family members death, I sought counseling for depression.
According to the “SAFE act” I’m no longer allowed anywhere near a gun because I chose to seek treatment.
I think the Gov. needs to reword the law from chasing honest citizens with away from treatment because of fear of permanently losing their rights without due process

  • monstersdoexist May 28, 2014, 8:44 am

Everytime I hear about our gun rights being threatened, I immediately go to my local gun store and purchase another firearm. Please stop as I am going broke and have no room left in my house for more guns

    • EAM January 20, 2017, 8:16 am

Funny, I added three and a half firearms (the 1/2 is a lower for an AR build) in the runup to the November elections. Hillary was second only to Barack in gun sales for 2016!

      LOL , Amen !

  • Mark S. Tercsak May 28, 2014, 7:10 am

I have been around firearms most of my life, and I agree with my late father there are some who should never be around them, these folks are not mental cases nor are they criminals, they just lack common sense.
That’s the problem because ” We The People” Elect these Jack-Ass’s to Office for they cannot get a real job.
    Much like this senator.
Every single one of them including our Dear Leader, the President of the United States should be fired, They have stolen your children’s futures and your grand children’s future etc.,etc.,etc.,
They have bankrupted this nation and destroyed the dollar and thus have made this nation weak.
But nothing is said about that and they keep printing more and more money.
The most important pharse in the second Amendment is the last one. “Shall not be Infringed”.
    what does this mean ?
It means Congress or any other group that can make Laws or legal decisions that become law, shall not create or make egal decisions that in essence become law that infringe on ones right to own firearms.
It is my contention that all twenty thousand plus gun laws are Unconstitutional .

    • I H November 1, 2016, 6:21 pm

Guns costing money is also an obvious infringement. They should be free.

    • Earl Manley January 20, 2017, 10:16 am

Well Said , my friend .

Let’s look at the root word of “Gun Control” . It is not “Gun”. It is “Control”. You see, the democrats are not interested in lessening or preventing gun violence. They are not even interested in lessening or preventing violent crimes as a whole whether committed with a gun or not. They want complete and absolute control over the citizenry of this country. They want us all to be neutered sheep who do nothing but vote for them and trust everything that they say and do without question. They want to be a ruling class over the submissive peasantry of the United Socialist States of America. They are doing everything in their power to move us to this end…and, unfortunately, they are succeeding. Obama Care is part of that socialist agenda (you will notice I refuse to capitalize democrat, liberal, socialist, etc. because they don’t deserve that respect)

Now, about mental health regulation. As stated by one of the other contributors, there are already laws on the books that mental health professionals must inform the proper authorities if they feel that a patient is a danger to themselves or others. It is also illegal for mentally ill persons to have access to weapons. Make no doubt about it, criminals are mental defectives. There is something wrong with someone who will sexually abuse a child or rape a woman or break into someone’s home or business or kill another human being. Criminals are already mentally ill and there are already laws that say they can not legally purchase a firearm. However, criminals don’t follow the law. If they did, they would not be criminals. They would not steal, rape, abuse and kill. Yet, criminals continue to have guns. How is that? Because they get them illegally. Banning guns will not get rid of gun violence. It will be open season on law abiding citizens and the law abidingl citizens will pay the ultimate price. The statistics are there. As an example, in 1979 or 1980 the small city of Kennesaw, GA passed an ordinance that everyone who lives in the city limits of Kennesaw must have a gun in their home. Now at that time, Kennesaw was a small, country town with very little crime, but the little crime that they had went to ZERO. And it has remained low for over 30 years. Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. Over this past Easter weekend over 30 people were killed by guns in Chicago. The next weekend over 35 were killed by guns in Chicago. This past Memorial Day weekend 39 people were killed by guns in Chicago and that was only Friday through Sunday. The numbers for Monday were not released at the time the article I read was published. However, you don’t hear about that on the liberal news outlets. All you hear about is another mass murder where a gun was used by Elliot Rogers. What about the victims in Chicago? Are they not worth the liberal news reporting on them? Of course not, as this flies in the face of the socialist, liberal agenda against guns. There can’t possibly be more gun violence when there are strict gun laws. It completely debunks their anti-gun platform so their propaganda machine (liberal news) doesn’t report on it.

Oh, another item you all may want to be aware of. As you surely all know the U.S.’s credit rating was down graded last year thanks to obama and his wonderful economic policies and there has been some talk about the U.S. dollar no longer being used as the World’s trade currency. Russia and China have just settled a new trade agreement where they will use their own currencies for the trade between them. This could have lasting and devastating effects on our economy. If China moves to sell our debt, it will trigger other countries to drop the U.S. dollar as their trade currency and it will cause an economic meltdown the likes of which has never been seen before. So, prepare yourself. There could be harder times coming. Thanks obama, biden, reid, pelosi, kerry, clinton, feinstein, et al. You have destroyed the greatest country that has ever existed in the history of the World. Good job.

    • Earl Manley January 20, 2017, 10:32 am

      Well Said , My Friend
COMMON SENSE , something missing in the world today . You did a great job of pointing out the absurdity of our elected officials on the Left ( and some on the Right ) . The sad fact of life is this …….. The Ignorance And Gullibility Of The American People are destroying our nation and our way of life .
Before you can vote , you should know at least what and who you are voting for . You should be able to understand the constitution and bill of rights .

The LAWS are already on the books to bar the mentally ill from Owning guns . Why is this not enforced ? Liberals !

  • Gary D. Hartley May 27, 2014, 7:23 pm

Let’s not ignore the fact that an equal amount of victims were stabbed as opposed to shot in this senseless and inexcusable crime, Where are the cries for “Knife Safety”?

  • victor May 27, 2014, 4:33 pm

Let me correct the senator, their was flags that would have prompted help. He was being seen by a therapist, his mom was aware of him and his mental state, they cops were called more than twice to check on his well being because of videos he had posted prevouisly on youtube. This is not a gun control issue this is a mental health issue fix the loop hole!! Also another thing if dianne finestein and mr. Yee and barbara boxer would stop taking our right to protect ourselves the outcome would be different he wouldnt have hurt/killed so many victims.

  • BigHat May 27, 2014, 2:30 pm

The Dems are crazy but they aren’t stupid. With ObamaCare, the VA crisis, and the Benghazi hearings hanging around their necks, the last thing they want is to mobilize gum owners to vote (against them) in the mid-terms.

    • bob May 27, 2014, 3:20 pm

The dems think that playing to their base is what will work and then reasonable middle of the road (undecided voters = political idiots) will be brow beat and guilt tripped into agreement. The dems are not stupid but some times they forget themselves and act like it. This time they simply think they got a rising tide of gun violence on their sides and are being driven this direction by people such as bloomberg. Bloomberg is not waiting around to do things until after the elections so the dems will go forth this time full tilt against guns.

The next elections will be their waterloo, the big test as to if they can go full on anti gun and win or not.

The NRA spends about 20M per year, bloomburg is willing to spend 100M to counter any NRA efforts and he has his army of do gooders to battle NRA members one on one. It will play out as usual, big city libs and all the usual players such as the permanent welfare recipients will fall in line against the rural and small town residents. The only hope we got is that the coming elections will be fought, not on the national level but district by district. I predict a slim win due to the after effects of obamacare and the general poor economy due to Obama economics = war on business.

Now for the bad news, on a national level, when it comes time for the next president to be elected we will get to welcome Hillery into the white house as some how nationally we all go collectively stupid and believe the media driven BS laid down by the dems. Sorry to be a downer but, remember, obama got reelected after clearly being the absolute worse president this country has ever seen. What does that tell you.

Make damn sure you are a dues paying NRA member as they are really our last hope of defense on gun rights, though their constant fund raising is a real PITA, it is really needed.

  • Brett Baldwin May 27, 2014, 2:03 pm

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with self protection, hunting, or sporting, however, these rights are inherent within the amendment. Our Founding Fathers employed the Second Amendment into the Constitution as an amendment in order to highlight it’s importance, to ensure that this right will never be infringed upon. As with all of the First 10 Amendment, commonly known as the “Bill of Rights”, our Founding Fathers wrote these amendments with the intent that they will stand as written.

Given this Constitutional understanding, the Second Amendment was written to ensure that the citizens of the United States of America had the means to keep this country a free state, and that the government shall not infringe, impose, or change this right, no matter what! However, our government, within the last 80 years, has infringed upon our rights under the Second Amendment several time. First infringement (1934) most would agree was a small infingement that was necessary, in order to control the “Fully Automatic” guns, which are commonly known today as “Assualt Weapons”, in the hands of gangsters of the era (Criminals: Al Capone types). Under the National Firearms Act of 1934 the governement imposed a $200.00 tax on the purchase of a “Fully Automatic Weapon”, which in the era made the purchaser pay approximately $300.00 for a $100.00 gun. This was quite a borden of purchasers in the era. Given today’s times, $200.00 is nothing for today’s “Fully Automatic Weapons”.

This leads into the most infringement law of the Second Amendment. In May of 1986 the Firearms Owners Protection Act went into effect. The Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 was brought to the floor of Congress with good intentions until a vacuous Democrat Politician, Rep. William J. Hughes, NJ, made an amendment to the “Bill” known as the “The Hughes Amendment”, which ended the sell of fully automatic weapon to “WE the People” that were made after the law’s enactment. This seems to be not too harmful of an infringement to most, as most do not understand the full extent of the infringement. As most people will say “Why does anyone need a “Fully Automtic” firearm?” Well, our Founding Fathers knew why, as they understood that “We the People” needed as means to ensure that this newly formed Nation stayed free. The means is what most people and politicians do not understand. Would you go to a gun fight armed with a knife? The anwser is “NO”, as you know the other party has the most means to kill you, then you have to kill him. This is what our founding fathers understood, “We the People” must have the same arms means as the party trying to take our free state away from us. I known most will say that our Founding Fathers did not know that firearms would advance to “fully Automatic” guns. Well, they are wrong, as our fighting Founding Fathers used a new advancement in firearms to their advantage during the Revolutionary War. This advancement was rifling of a barrel. Most historians will say this new advancement was not a major imployment during the war. However, it was used enough in the war to instill in our Founding Fathers minds that such advancement in firearms will not be infringed upon the rights of the citizens of this newly formed country to ensure that this country stays a free state. This what most people and politicians do not understand of our Founding Fathers’ meaning into the Second Amendment. With our governement imposing such a control on the sell of new “Fully Automatic” weapons does not seem to harsh, or does it? Under the Firearms Owners Protections Act of 1986 only “Fully Automatic” firearms made prior to the enactment are legal to own/possess, and when that “fully Automatic” firearm is no longer functionable, and no parts prior to the eactment of the May 1986 Firearms Owners Protection Act is not available, then the said “fully Automatic” firearm is no longer available for use in a time of need in ensuring the Nation stays free. Basically, all the legally owned “Fully Automatic” firearms in this nation will be unsuable to “We the People” With this said, anyone should understand the importance of the governments infringement of the Second Amendment.

Some may still say the 1986 infringement was a rightous law, however, they are forgetting that the law is UNCONSTITUIONAL, no matter how you look at it.The whole Firearms Owners Protection Act should, and will be, repealed once “We the People” understand the poliiticians vacuous infringement imposed upon us all.

This leads into the other infringements that the citizens of this country are being imposed upon slowly. With politicians changing the meaning of “Fully Automatic Weapons” to Assault Weapons, and now including some semi-automatic weapons as “Assault Weapon” because of their appearance or by the number of bullets the magazine holds. Now our politicians are trying to limit what types of firearms “We the People” can have and limit the number of bullets our magazine holds. Most will again say “It’s not such a bad infringement, as it’s curbing deaths of gun violence.” That maybe true, however, we are humans, and we will do as humans have always have done, if you don’t have a gun to kill someone, then we’ll use a knife, and if we don’t have a knife, we’ll use a club, etc. As humans, we will you any means available to us to kill someone, and that will not change until we as humans understand that we all are humans and the all have the same rights. Now say that the limitation of the types of firearms and magazines size “We the People” have available to us does decrease the amount of deaths due to gun violence, we would have to understand why this is true. However, by that time the government would have seen that the limitation of the type of firearm and the number of bullets our magazines held was not working, as long as we have access to a gun and a bullet (1), we could still use the gun under the usage of “Gun Violence”. Then we would still find other means to commit death of violence until we learn as humans that we all are equal and have the same rights as humans.

What does it matter if the governement puts limitations on what type of firearms we are aloowed to bear, and limit our magazines capacities? Well, to answer this we must understand the meaning of equal fire power that our Founding Fathers understood. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand that if entity, even our government, decided to take our freedom away from us, and they were armed with “Fully Automatic” weapons firing 1200 bullets per minute, that “We the People” will most likely perish along with our freedom due to the lack of the means to defeat the opposition forces.

“We the People” need to wake up from letting our politicians empower our government with the means to take our freedoms away and control us under their will. There are some politicians currently in office that believe the average citizens do not need guns, yet they have the right to arm themselves. Remember what Senator Dianne Feinstein said in an interview in 1995 about the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, and the fact that she herself carries a gun on her person to protect herself. Just remember Feinstein stated “If I had the votes, I would have told Mr. and Mrs. America turn them all in, I would have.” Feinstein was not talking about turning in our dirty laundry, she was answering a direct question about the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and more, as she was telling the interviewer that she would have all of the american citizens to turn-in all of their guns, every last one of them, period!

And “We the People” are letting the politicians brain wash us into infringements of are GOD Given Right under the Second Amendment under the blanket of “Crime Control”. WAKE UP AMERICA before our politicians let our government control us. And don’t sit there and think it cannot happen here, as it has already started.

If the citizens of the United States of America let our government take away our God given right under the Second Amendment, then the government and politicians with control of the government will take away all of our freedoms and rights, and then we will under their control. Frankly, I don’t want to live in a country were the government controls my life, as that, to me, would be like living under a prison state.

There are other avenues our politicians need to address in gaining control of violence, as gun control is only an infringement of the Second Amendment, which is unconstitutional under our Constitution.

  • bob May 27, 2014, 1:57 pm

This is how it will play out in 10 yrs, want a gun, then you will need to go through a government mandated mental health evaluation. This will include any previous health records. Oh, and if you are a republican or conservative, you can kiss your guns goodby same as the IRS tea party scandal.

This is how they are going to remove guns from anyone they chose (everyone) in the future. You know how easy it will be for any mental health professional with an agenda against guns to find you a bit over the established levels of instability for gun ownership? How about the fact the government will make certain that the person who evaluates you DOES have an agenda against guns!

What you need to do is contact your elected officials and remind them of this scenario along with the IRS bias against conservatives/tea party members and what will happen incrementally within the next 10 to 20 years. Tell them you realize exactly what is going on and so must they. Tell them if they don’t stop this they will be replaced with some one with foresight who knows what the liberal agenda really is. Get an answer, demand one, so they have to take a public stand on this issue.

Oh, and you may or may not believe me on this but I saw this coming years ago and starting posting online about it, no one would bother to take it seriously so I have only one thing to say to all you slack jaw non believers:

TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU TOLD YOU, now, listen to me next time damn it….. ooops, I guess I’m a little excessive and a conservative, so I just failed the mental health eval for gun ownership……

My new advice: buy M16s and thousands of rounds, your re going to need them soon. Buy that M16 as a 80% receiver and have it finished by a local machinist, then get the rest of the parts and put it together. Uncle obama won’t know you got it then. Make sure you got good hiding place because when they come to confiscate your other guns they will perform a complete search of your property for any unknown and undeclared weapons. Bury it deep in your yard in a large PVC pipe completely sealed up with another right beside it filled with ammo. Make damn sure you don’t blab about this to anyone.

  • GLOCKNUT May 27, 2014, 12:31 pm

We have had at least one and probably two generations who have fed on violent movies, T.V. and video games. They are shown graphic killings over and over, some since a toddler. They have also be told that they are nothing more than an animal and if any other animal “wrongs” you, then it is no problem to hurt or kill them. I could also go on to the killing of millions of unborn babies, but I would likely lose most of you.
But the big push to control and then get the firearms is driven by fear. Those in power are using, primarily the media, to cause fear within the easily deceived masses, to give up any defense they may have by those whole are in power. And make no mistake, it’s not only the “elected” officials who on in power. It is those behind the scenes with their billions, who run things.
Anyway, one could write a book on these issues. The bottom line is, THEY ARE GOING TO GET THE GUNS”! It may take 5, 10 or even more years, but they have decided that for them to have complete control for the masses, they must get any effective means to resist. So once they get the majority believing that we are safer without guns, they will be able to do what they plan to do. I’m glad many are resisting, as it prolongs it, but it will happen.

The problem is the physiological drugs them selves. If you notice that in last couple of years all of these shooting are linked to the shooter using or once using these drugs. We all know what happens to an alcoholic, or a addicted black market drug user when they where using them and then suddenly stop. These shooters have became chemically dependent on these physiological drugs, maybe a specific group of new chemicals that have been on the market in the last few years. Also every autopsy in every suicide case always reveals there is a major shortage of B vitamins in the person’s body. Our body uses B vitamins to make serotonin and other chemicals for our neurotransmitters that keep our chemistry in check. Take countries who have garden food as a primary source of diet have very few suicides. However the majority of Americans now consume processed foods. You take a nutrient deficiency in combination with horrible parenting that was influence by ignorance, evil and greed equals a social meltdown of society. Here is a question I want answered. Why aren’t the families of the victims suing the drug companies for this disaster? Especially sue happy Cali. Maybe the NRA needs to do it on the families behalf.

@Listen to This It never ceases to amaze me how the anti-gunners come out of the woodwork when these incidents happen. Sadly, so many of them fail to look for a legitimate reason and prefer to blame the violence on the weapons/firearms. These mental midgets fail to understand the logic that firearms are but one tool. The one issue they fail to recognize is that there seems to be a common thread among the shooters. I believe most of them have been under twenty four years of age. It is also said of many that it is out of character for them to become so violent. Many have had at least some contact with the mental health community. There is one class of medication that seems to be a tailor fit to this behavior. These are called S.S.R.I.s, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. Examples of this you may of heard of are Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac. There is a warning in the prescribing information that it should not be given to males under the age of twenty four years of age. Now see if this may sound familiar, “it causes severe violent outbursts that is totally out of character” and should be avoided in males under twenty four. It is well known that some of these shooters have at least some history of mental illness and without a doubt some have been on those particular medications. The medications they are on have been kept secret, most likely to avoid law suits. One trend concerning mental illness is that many refuse to be referred to a Psychiatrist due to the stigma attached to such visits. As a result, the primary care doctor will treat them for what they term as mild forms of Psych issues. Then the sales rep talks them into prescribing their own version of S.S.R.I.’s, neglecting to mention that one particular group that are not supposed to be given them, males under twenty four. What follows is a shooting that is followed by statements of disbelief such a mellow guy would ever do such horrible actions. The best defense for the large pharmaceutical companies is to blame those terrible guns again. Of course there is a lot of money available to use to keep the media covering all the shootings. The drug producers just keep raking in the money while young men are used as pawns to avoid the blame being put where it belongs.

Make Gun control a public health issue, and a public safety issue. Single payer option is the only option where people can be treated for with mental problems. Large private health care Companies have to make enormous profits to their stock holders, their executives, and all the parasites, that continually suck money from citizens in the name of private health care policies. Tell all those folks the average citizen does not have enough money to carry them. If they are not actually a Doctor, Nurse, or person involved in treating sick people go get another job. Another way to make money. There is too much of a conflict of interest.

Mentally ill, troubled people have to be identified and put into a data base, that disqualifies them from participating in purchasing chemicals to make deadly gas, bombs, driving vehicles, using matches, knives, guns.

This is a new concept that must be added into the Bill of Rights. It is a service, that needs to be done in the name of public safety. The people in a free society, have a right to not be attacked by other people who have proven by prior unsocial behaviors to not be right, and in some manner of conduct potentially dangerous.

The Second Amendment, and all the other amendments must be regulated, stipulated to specifically guard the public from people who cannot be trusted to self discipline their conduct from endangering others. Privacy matters and issues must be augmented, so that Public Safety Trumps the shame of secrets and disqualifications of mental illness.

Background checks to purchase dangerous products and materials must have real teeth in them so that dangerous people show up on them and sales can be eliminated, and all individuals attempting to evade background checks or be straw buyers must be charged with serious crime. Gun runners and people illegally selling dangerous materials and or products to people who cannot pass background checks due to criminal behavior and mental deviant behavior must be identified and dealt with severely.

Are you for real? do you hear what you are sayin! • OHenkle May 27, 2014, 2:38 pm

Gun Control is not a disease or illness. Why the hell would you want the CDC in the picture? There are already laws on the books to prevent anything you mentioned. But health officials are scared of labeling a misfit as a misfit, for numerous reasons. One of which is being sued. But more so I think, because they don’t want to get it wrong and label this person as a danger when they are not. AND It should be that way! Think of all the troubles that will cause and if it were a whimsical diagnosis, a blanket diagnosis by less then qualified health officials. Yes people get killed. I understand that that is much worse then a label placed on you, but is it reasonable to believe that moonbats will obey laws anymore then criminals or those that are already restricted from possessing a firearm?

      • Smoke Hill Farm May 27, 2014, 8:52 pm

The biggest problem with the mental health aspect is twofold:

        (a) the mental health “professionals” are basically quacks who pretend their ever-changing diagnoses are actually based in science. You can have three different shrinks examine the same loony and get three different diagnoses … or perhaps similar diagnoses but totally different opinions as to whether the loony actually presents a threat to himself or others.

        (b) The mental health industry is overwhelmingly left-wing and believes its primary job is to make the loonies feel better about themselves and/or learn to function in society. Any pretense of actually protecting the public at large from dangerous whackjobs is at best a secondary consideration, if it happens at all.

Remember that it was these irresponsible progressive moonbats that emptied out the asylums back in the 1970s, claiming most of these loonies could be adequately treated as voluntary outpatients. That never happened since the shrinks couldn’t foresee that most of these nutters had no desire for treatment and in fact most thought there was nothing wrong with them. This is the primary source of our so-called “homeless” population that absolutely ballooned after they opened the gates to the nuthouse.

My point is this — even if shrinks had any interest in protecting us from their “patients,” they are simply not qualified to even do it.

The issue I see with the mental health reporting is that doctors will do the same thing they do now in regular medicine field. They will over report to protect themselves from lawsuits and liability. Does anyone doubt there are relatives and lawyers out there that will not climb all over a mental health professional whose patient is not reported but commits a crime with a firearm? I bet the lawyers are already lining up now and you will probably see some lawsuits out of this one. Put that onus on the doctors and EVERYONE that was ever depressed or anxious will be banned from owning a firearm. I am sure the criminals will see their psychs and voluntarily hand over their firearms.

Maybe if your post had some background music, like “Deutschland Uber Alles” … or “Die Wacht am Rhein”

If you actually think the government — ANY government — either can, or will, coddle you in some warm lilttle womb of safety without eventually enslaving you & removing your humanity , you ought to take a very close look at all those that have tried, such as the USSR, Cuba, or Nazi Germany.

If they were to play the mental health issue correctly, none of the anti constitution law makers would or should have access to any kind of weapon (bat, car, stick, knife, etc.). Guns protect good people from bad people, mentally challenged people can be stopped by good people with the proper tools as our government creates more and more challenged people.

    I love my guns!!!

So say I am seeing a doctor because I have chronic back pain and when it has a bad flair up causes me to feel depressed and because of that I seek mental health treatment. So liberals believe I should not have a gun, because I seek help? The person I would fear is the ones that treat themselves with drugs, like crack, crystal meth, and this list can go on and on.
People that seek help are under a doctors care know if for some reason the doctor believes you might be a danger to your self or others that they are required by current laws to report you.
What these people want is to be able to go into your medical records and look around when they choose. The HEPA laws are there to keep this from happening. We have the protection of this law so people will seek help, it is a fairly new for people to feel OK by seeking help. Not but a few years ago people would not go, because they were looked on as some crazy person that might be cooking kids and feeding them to pets.
We have came a long way and there is more to go otherwise I would not be writing this. Yes some people that kill have mental problems and are under care, but most are not and these are the people to be afraid of. Just go down to the worst area in your city for crime. Now pull out a roll of hundreds, that guy that took your money and possibly shot you for the fun of it is the real danger you need to worry about. Criminals do not seek help, being crazy is what makes them such a good criminal. Guess what we already have many laws preventing them from buying firearms, so they steal them or buy them off the street. I do not believe they would pay $2000.00 for a gun to rob you or the store for $200.00.

the second amendment was given to us so we could protect ourselves from the tyranny of the government in which I call upon gun holdersd to start doing, because we are under tyranny,,the things that impact our lives on a daily basis,,WE HAVE NO VOTE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Dennis Siegler May 27, 2014, 10:26 am

And who, my friend, will lead us in this fight against tyranny? Are you looking for martyrs to take out those who impose their tyranny against us?

The problem with thoughts like this is the mistaken notion that people with mental health problems will obey the law any better than any other violent criminal. There are already multiple laws on the books that prohibit someone with mental illness from purchasing or owning a firearm. There are laws on the books that prohibit criminals from owning firearms. There are laws on the books that prohibit people from taking a firearm into any number of locations but the problem is, criminals don’t care! By shear definition, a criminal is someone who breaks the law. Adding more laws will not stop crime, it only further restricts the law abiding citizen. It does another thing as well. At some point, law abiding citizens will become criminals because they either refuse to acknowledge the law because they feel it is unconstitutional or the law ends up painting citizens in a corner where they feel they cannot comply with the law. Take any shooting that has taken place where multiple people have lost their lives. Two reoccurring themes keep coming to light, one, the shooting was in a “gun free zone” or a gun restricted zone and two, if 20, or 10, or even 1 citizen would have been armed and had a decent level of proficiency using their firearm, the loss of life would have either been completely stopped or significantly reduced. If every instance where there has been a mass shooting, what if there had been a different sign posted all around. What if there were signs that read, “This establishment is a proud supporter of the 2nd amendment and we encourage our employees and our patrons to carry firearms.” How many would still be alive today?

    • Dennis Siegler May 27, 2014, 10:20 am

Obviously the shooter didn’t see the gun free zone sign! And in his apartment there maybe should have been a no knife killing zone sign. Or maybe there should be laws on the books to drive more carefully so as not to injury people who are walking around. Oh yeah, there’s already laws for those kind of things. He didn’t obay the no killing with a knife law, or drive safely so as not to injure pedestrian while driving a car law. So, what we need now is more laws that wouldn’t have mattered in any way , shape , or form? I don’t think so!

Senator, screw you. Kill the killer it’s the killer doing the killing, not the instrument, no gun ever killed anybody, only people do. I believe in the second amendment & the bill of rights…..”period.” and my name is Legion.

This sort of politico is the sort of person I call a “Metro-Liberal”. He is someone who cannot understand that Cities are not everywhere, and that his sort of “give-away” politics don’t work where there is either no or only a small economic underclass.
Metro-Liberals are blind to the fact that over 98% of this country is STILL RURAL or not settled at all. Metro-Liberals cannot imagine a firearm (“Guns” are only found on ships) that is a tool rather than “something that must be regulated for everyone’s safety”, indeed, these people can’t understand that regulating firearms is akin to regulating hammers, saws, and perhaps even nails. They represent a clear danger to our system because they have the power of the Populace: numbers of Voters who vote Party Line rather than thinking about who or what they are voting for.
If this person ( or ANY firearm control proponent) were dropped into a forest or a prairie or mountains, they would scream for SOMEBODY WITH A GUN to come rescue them.
Perhaps we need to rethink this Country. Let the Cities be Cities…and let the rest of us ALONE.

My initial thought was to agree with you about encouraging — prominently — patrons to carry guns (legally, of course) into a business.

However, after a moment’s reflection it occurred to me that virtually every one of these mass shooters has gone into the situation assuming he was going to die, either from some cop’s bullet or his own. Therefore I wonder whether the presence (assumed, anyhow) of firearms would deter him much.

I tend to think it WOULD, for the most part, since it would definitely lower his body count, and that seems to be one of their prime goals. Ironic, considering how ineffective most of these loony shooters have been, considering the time they had, the complete lack of any defenses, and the firepower they brought with them. Any decent shooter could have done better with a revolver and a pocketful of speedloaders — or even a few cargo pockets full of Molotov cocktails or napalm concoctions.

      • Sian May 29, 2014, 12:50 pm

They go in expecting to die, yes, but every time one of these cowards has been confronted with armed resistance, his bubble of invincibility has been busted and he has stopped his spree to take his own life. They want to leave a mark and get national media attention, not get shot down before they rack up an impressive bodycount.
When police stop a mass shooter, he’s killed an average of 7 people. When an armed civilian does it, it’s only 2.5.
