Case knives are the epitome of a classic folding knife and chances are that your grandpa had one. They have also had EDC styles for many years, but for 2024 the new Bridgeline series is applying the classic forms to the modern functions.
The Longhouse knife stands out at SHOT this year, so let’s take a quick look.
CPM20CV Clip Point Blade
Longhouse’s blade is a cool clip point. Unlike many clip points, it doesn’t have a deep convex cutout. It’s almost a straight line down to the point, which makes it look less aggressive and classy.
Also, the blade is made from CPM20CV, a solid choice for an everyday carry knife. It holds an edge well so it’ll be ready, but it’s also not too difficult to sharpen. Its cutting edge is hollow-ground and stonewash-finished.
Striking Materials
There are three choices for handle material and they are all attractive. Red American rosewood scales are smooth and satiny, while the black burlap and tan canvas micarta options are a little more contemporary.
Like the scales, the pinched aluminum bolsters blend seamlessly into the knife’s form. The frame and pocket clip are also anodized aluminum. The remaining components, like the cage ball-bearing action, are all stainless steel.
Unapologetically Stout
Whereas many gentlemanly EDC knives are slim and unobstrusive to the point of uselessness, Longhouse is just about the perfect combination of husky and lightweight to remain useful for any task. Case seems to understand that a pocket knife still needs a certain size and heft. Longhouse feels confident in its form.
Rather than a flipper lever sticking out — and snagging your hand each time you reach in your pocket — this has a front flipper design. On the show floor, it was smooth and fast. The deep-carry pocket clip is reversible and positioned for tip-up carry. While opening is easy, the liner lock is tight and solid.
