Neighbors Arrested for Shooting Each Other While Wearing Bulletproof Vest

Two Arkansas men are in hot water after taking turns shooting one another while the other was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Neighbors Charles Eugene Ferris, 50 and Christopher Hicks, 36, were drinking Sunday in Ferris’ backyard. Ferris was donning body armor and told Hicks to shoot him with a .22-caliber rifle.

Hicks obliged, shooting Ferris in the chest. Thankfully, the projectile did not penetrate the vest.

What Ferris didn’t realize or maybe underestimated is that even with the armor on, getting shot still hurts! Angered by the throbbing bruise on his pec, Charles told Christopher it was his turn to experience it.

With the vest on Chuck shot Chris in the back.  Not once, but six times! Chuck “unloaded the clip into Christopher’s back,” said the police report authored by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Again, the vest stopped the bullets.

Following the exchange, Ferris sought treatment at a local hospital. Not wanting to look like a complete idiot, Ferris invented a story about a shootout in Hobbs State Park.

Ferris told hospital staff and accompanying investigators that he was paid $200 to protect an “asset.” When Ferris and the “asset” entered the park at 10 p.m. Saturday night they were confronted by an armed man in a white suit traveling down a bicycle path. A gunfight broke out and Ferris was shot protecting the “asset.”

That tall tale may have held up if it wasn’t for Ferris’ wife, who ratted him out to authorities, telling them what really went down, that there was no “asset,” that Ferris was drinking with his neighbor Hicks when the two decided to test the efficacy of body armor with a .22.

Police then arrested the neighbors, charging each with aggravated assault. If convicted, the two could spend six years in prison. Both are due back in court on May 13.

These clowns need to be removed from the gene pool. They are clearly a lower species.

  • OldGuy April 6, 2019, 2:40 am

    Maybe Darwin was correct.
Talk about dumb and dumber, wow!
Did anyone get the name of the vests they were wearing?
Lucky for both of those half-wits the vests actually worked to save their lives and lucky neither of them missed.

  • Doc Loch April 6, 2019, 12:26 am

So, when someone goes parasailing or sky-diving or, as another commented, demolition derby driving, they all need to be charged with aggravated assault. Lots of us consider some things stupid, but if two people are in agreement, and no one files a complaint against the other, the only assault that has occurred is, as usual, the assault of the government against it’s citizens. The police have ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS HERE, with the facts we’re given.

I wasn’t anti-police, but it’s getting hard not to be. The government is on a drunken rampage much worse than these two nuts! If they were threatening their lived on a football field or in an MMA cage everyone would be cheering. Where are the aggravated assault charges for those things.

    • Beachhawk April 6, 2019, 5:43 pm

I doubt that the district attorney will take this case to trial. The police may have just been trying to get two stupid drunks off the streets before someone did get hurt.

Dang, sounds like fun. Goin over to the naybors ratt now

  • bob onit April 5, 2019, 7:12 pm

arkansas ! combined with drinking ,seems pretty tame… no mensa awards though ,but maybe a darwinian honorable mention…

  • Gourdhead April 5, 2019, 5:20 pm

Morons are everywhere. They give drinking a bad image.

Filing a false report, but definitely not Agg-Assault. Being stupid? Yeah, but being stupid isn’t a crime. If it were most of us would qualify for jail time at least one or twice in our lifetimes. For example – – my first marriage.

    • Doc Loch April 6, 2019, 12:27 am

Exactly right. Who is going punish this nanny county government? That is the real embarrassment here!

  • Scott April 5, 2019, 4:41 pm

These comments are priceless. The good news is all they have to do is donate $10K to the local government and do some community service and they’ll be free to try again.

  • Philster7656 April 5, 2019, 4:36 pm

Just out of curiosity, which one of them made the complaint? If neither one of them signed a complaint, I don’t see how the police could arrest them. (Unless maybe because they lied to the doctor at the hospital?)

I mean, if stupidity were against the law, the police would have a long list of celebrities, college professors, and politicians to arrest.

  • Eric Holder April 5, 2019, 2:54 pm

And? Demolition Derby is with cars right? Using a motor vehicle essentially as a weapon BUT there is no intent to injure each other, only destroy or incapacitate the vehicles. Yes being intoxicated and dumb with firearms is foolish. Charging these guys with those crimes? Priceless. What a waste of time and money.

Maybe they can get that Smollett attorney or DA to drop all the charges. The wife really helped them out.

  • John Boutwell April 5, 2019, 1:22 pm

I’m sure being stupid has it’s penalties, both these boys have felt it before and will no doubt feel it again.

  • Jimbo April 5, 2019, 12:58 pm

Risk your life or health to find out if a vest works. That’s like Bugs Bunny hitting the tip of an artillery shell with a hammer to find out if it is a dud…..

  • John April 5, 2019, 11:48 am

There ain’t no cure for stupid.
I remember when they first started selling vests like that. They had a media event and after a couple of demonstrations a journalist begged to wear the vest and get shot. They did it and the expression on the journalist’s face when he got shot was priceless. It hurt and he yells out, “Ohhhh Sheeeeit.”
ALWAYS remember, alcohol and stupid do not play well together. Especially when guns, cars, fire or explosives are involved.

    • Clint W. April 5, 2019, 1:54 pm

A similar event happened in the city council meeting in Jacksonville, FLA over 27 years ago. During a discussion about whether to outlaw the electric self defense zapper, a newspaper man volunteered to get zapped by one of those small personal electric zappers, not a Taser, while in the meeting to show how non-lethal or damaging the effects of the shock was. When he got zapped, he crapped himself big time right in front of the council members, audience, and flash photography.

  • Vic April 5, 2019, 11:44 am

    And the Crime is?

One of the fellas credited with creating modern soft body Armor used to demonstrate it’s effectiveness by stuffing a phone book behind a vest he created and was wearing and firing it in front of Peace Officers.. Who were standing 10-15 away (Who then proceeded to buy them Hotcakes)..

There is no “approved procedure for that and on occasions it occurred behind the Local police Station in the parking lot..

If they were in a place it was legal to shoot, They both were consenting .. Just leave people to their own devices and choices.. Wise or not.

In certain circles 40 years ago fellows would stand 20 ft apart hold targets at arms length and shoot at each others targets. Such activities are in Col Applegate;s training regimen,, (8 ft away firing your 1911 in the direction of and directly over the head of trainees so they learned what it was like to get shot at at on the receiving end of Close Combat..

  • Jim April 5, 2019, 11:13 am

What a couple of complete idiots! Once a vest has stopped a bullet the vest is somewhat compromised because should another round hit in the same place or close to it, it may actually penetrate on the second round! Unbelievable! Well check that, I believe it as I have seen some really stupid things as a cop. Still, even a .22 will hurt and leave a considerable bruise on you. Thankfully they weren’t shooting at each other with .45’s or some other big bore round!

  • Jeff R April 5, 2019, 11:02 am

    Typical Arkansas Cousin-fucker behavior.

  • Dale Coy April 5, 2019, 10:53 am

They should be made to continue playing until one wins. We must cleanse the gene pool.

  • Jason Coffey April 5, 2019, 10:49 am

Always a few idiots that do everything they can to ruin stuff for others! And a 50 yr old and 36yr old. You would expect to be more wise or mature.

  • Jorge Garcia April 5, 2019, 10:49 am

“Deliverance” Part II. Maybe next time they will do it with fully automatic guns and as the rifles rise they will get it above the neck/vest(s). Do us all a favor……..

The comments here are great, LMAO as I read them all……..

  • KimberproSS April 5, 2019, 10:06 am

I lived in Arkansas once in my life. When I saw the headline I had to read it to see where these two were living, didn’t surprise me. “Hey watch this, here, hold my beer”. Hahaha

Nice friendly accepting people. They will be in the backyard drinking beer in a month laughing this one off.

  • Dan Daly April 5, 2019, 10:00 am

When I read the HEADLINE I said to myself I’ll bet they weren’t using nines forties or 45’s. They would have gone from “ouch that hurt” , “to call 911”.

  • LJ April 5, 2019, 9:57 am

It’s crap like this that gives gun owners a bad name. I hope both of these idiots have to spend some time in jail.

  • Norm Fishler April 5, 2019, 9:46 am

Alcohol involved? Big surprise there . . .

  • Corey Sallee April 5, 2019, 9:35 am

Im sure ot was the guns fault. It probably used its evil gun powers to get these two idiots drunk and convince them to shoot each other..

  • Big Jim April 5, 2019, 9:34 am

Alcohol has created some marvelous ideas.

  • RGE April 5, 2019, 9:16 am

Stupid is what stupid does. Guns and booze don’t mix, especially with bullet proof vests.

  • Tom April 5, 2019, 9:03 am

Two consenting adults, where’s the problem?

  • Michael Hayes April 5, 2019, 8:36 am

The saying goes, you can’t fix stupid.

    • Jim April 5, 2019, 11:25 am

Well actually you can fix stupid but fortunately for these two they survived. Had one of them or both of them were killed ‘stupid’ would have been fixed, permanently!

  • IPDAILY April 5, 2019, 8:30 am

When God was handing out brains those two were not in line.

  • Jay April 5, 2019, 8:26 am

I bet they were watching Dumb and Dumber and in their drunken stupor were like, we can do better than that!

  • Cody April 5, 2019, 8:26 am

This whole story was a hilarious example of Darwinism.
I did get irritated at this sentence though, Chuck “unloaded the clip into Christopher’s back,” said the police.
It’s called a magazine, I guess they can use that as a loop hole for a mistrial.

  • Bones April 5, 2019, 8:21 am

Let me guess …. deplorable hicks?

    • DanJ April 5, 2019, 9:05 am

They should\’ve filmed the incident and sold it to the vest company as a promotional video

  • Andrew April 5, 2019, 6:24 am

Not very smart! Stupid and dangerous to handle firearm when one is drinking or drunk.
One wrong move, you can be dead. Rule says firearms and liquor should never be handled
at the same time. These men deserve to spend some time in jail and think about how dump it was.
They make anti-gunners all the more empowered. Not good for the good citizens.

  • Stephen GRAY April 5, 2019, 4:58 am

Why, go to the hospital, drink more BEERs and get more ammo.

  • rill April 4, 2019, 3:44 pm

    • Steve April 5, 2019, 5:33 am

They give rednecks a bad name.

  • John Jackson April 4, 2019, 12:45 pm

How can someone be charged by police for assault if the victim asked for it to happen and isn’t pressing charges? Can my carpet cleaning guy be charged with breaking and entering after I let him into my house?

    • srsquidizen April 5, 2019, 7:46 am

A-holes like this initially get charged with the worst crime cops think might fit. Assault won’t stick unless one of them insists it was not “consensual” and presses charges and then a jury believes it. Alas, there is no crime called “incredible stupidity” and if there were we couldn’t possible build enough jails. They could also be charged with false statement since they made up a story about what happened. They are not black gay celebrities and it didn’t happen in Chicago so they might actually get convicted of that.
