NY Gun Stores Will Now Be Required to Post This!

New York gun shops will soon need to display state-approved warning signs.

The sign reads:

Access to a weapon or firearm in the home significantly increases the risk of suicide, death during domestic disputes, and/or unintentional deaths to children, household members, and others. If you or a loved one is experiencing distress and/or depression, call the national suicide prevention lifeline at 988.

To anyone with a brain, this is self-evident! Weapons can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Duh! In related news, water is wet, coffee is commonly served hot and the sky is blue.

The overlords in New York think that by mandating these signs, which tell people something they already know, they’ll “raise awareness” or “save lives.”

But really, it’s a message that no law-abiding citizen needs to hear. We know that we shouldn’t arm violent felons, the mentally ill, or minors. It’s common sense! Not only that, there’s a federal law prohibiting it!

We also know that, as the sign tacitly implies, almost any common household item can be weaponized. Everything from a kitchen knife to a cast iron skillet can be used to harm another.

Heck, some crazies even try to hurt one another with bleach!

Point is, it’s about the people in one’s home, not the tools or “weapons.” If you live with people at risk of hurting themselves or others, you really have two options: leave or get them help.

Because as hard as you try, you can’t practically turn your home into a hazard-free, solitary confinement cell.

Now, kids are a different category, obviously. You have to take age-appropriate precautions. And, when the time is right, teach them essentials like how to swim, how to call for help, how to properly handle a firearm, etc. Parenting 101.

Again, all of this is obvious and doesn’t need to be stated. So why are the NY nanny-staters mandating FFLs to hang these stupid signs?

Brandon Lewis, owner of The Firing Pin Indoor Shooting Range and Gun Shop in Bergen, NY, had an interesting observation.

He spoke to WHAM 13 about the new law, which is awaiting Gov. Hochul’s signature (no doubt she’ll sign it).

“We just see this as attacking the symptoms as opposed to the root issue of trying to solve some of these societal problems that we have,” Lewis said. “Are car manufacturers going to have to say you’re more likely to get in a car accident by buying this vehicle?”

“We definitely see this as a stepping stone, almost making firearms like cigarettes, and how they’re now just seen as an overall negative in society,” Lewis added. “We ignore any positive the firearms might have.”

Well, Lewis is not wrong about it being a stepping stone of sorts.

Because Rochester City Councilmember Willie Lightfoot, the head of the ROC Against Gun Violence Coalition, told the news outlet that there are more mandates in the works.

“We want to be very clear that there’s no attack against gun dealers and legal gun owners,” Lightfoot said.

“However, we need to do our due diligence to those 10 percent of gun dealers who are operating immorally, unethically,” he continued. “We also are advocating for more inspections. Some of these gun dealers are only inspected once every 10 years. We’re looking for annual inspections of these gun dealers.”

The state is turning the screws to FFLs. It starts with the sign, then frequent inspections. And guess what happens when the sign is not properly posted during the annual inspection? Bingo. They get shut down.

This whole sign B.S. isn’t about “raising awareness” or “saving lives.” It’s about control and compliance. It’s a slippery slope designed to tighten the grip on gun shops, it’s about pushing FFLs to the brink with constant scrutiny and bureaucratic red tape.

The sign mandate is just the beginning.

(Anyone who doubts that this is a slippery slope should look at what the Golden State is doing. They’re now forcing FFLs to buy costly 24-hour security equipment along with million-dollar liability insurance.)

And the statehouse in Albany should post a sign reading:

“Warning. This building contains marxist nit-wits intent on stealing your freedoms and ruining your lives”

This is regulation that only benefits bureaucrats in the never ending power grabs, especially the many dubious left-wing “technocrats.” Unconstitutional decsions like Cheveron Deference must be struck down, the sooner the better.

What percent of guns that are sold result in suicides by the purchaser within 96 hours?

    • Kane June 15, 2024, 12:07 pm

Good question to anyone who does NOT blindly support every proposed law.

Maybe they should post these signs on every telephone pole in high crime neighborhoods by this logic. Oh wait, someone would call it the “R”-word and sue.

    Okay
Let’s put 100 5 year old children in a room with knives and cast iron skillets for 10 minutes and see how many kill the other.
Now let’s put 100 5 year olds in a room and give half of em Glock 19s with full mags and a round chambered.
I volunteer to clean up the cast iron skillet and knife room, and the dipshit who wrote this article gets to clean up the Glock room.

It’s hard to make any sense of your post. Let’s try using an example based on facts.

Here’s what was really done, millions of illegal aliens, in violation of federal law and were allowed into the US by this Administration. Over 100,000 illegal alien children are now unaccounted for by the US government.

What percentage of those children have fallen into the hands of sexual predators?

I cannot expect you to answer a question that nobody else can answer. One possible clue to use is FBI static that I read some time ago. The FBI statitic indicated that over 10% of society are sexual predators. So at the very least, 10,000 children would have fallen into the hands of sexual predators based on an example without repeat offenders. Who knows how many are being used for economic slavery.

So here is a question you should be able to answer, is this current man in the WH a “dipshit”?

Only a democrat would be foolish enough to give a group of 5 y/o. weapons and leave them alone. That said, if those 5 y/o were taught morals and values (ie killing is wrong) and they understood consequences, their would be nothing to clean up in either room. If the parents of said kids, dropped them at the nearest public school where teachers are no longer allowed to punish kids in way, shape or fashion, and don’t teach morals…well I for one would not go into either room.

I never look at any signs, except times the store is open/closed.

  • BR549 June 14, 2024, 10:17 am

Kathy, sweetie, we know how intellectually challenged you and “your people” are concerning what you perceive to be “Gun Violence,” but I would remind you that the issue is actually about the VIOLENCE that seems to run rampant in areas where populations are socially mismanaged by incompetent bureaucrats and administrations.

You will please also note that the vast majority, if not ALL, of the VIOLENCE you are so concerned about is perpetrated by your fellow Democrats. Take away the guns and you’ll soon be having to outlaw baseball bats and kitchen knives because that VIOLENCE comes from the frustrations and resentments of individuals who have been forgotten in a sea of corruption within your precious Blue State environments across the country.

I know this does not compute with your marxist/globalist indoctrination, but keep staying your course and you will find out just how fast you wind up on the rocks.

There is only one gun law we have to obey, that is the 2ed amendment to the constitution!

add the line: “can result in injury or death of criminals”, to be accurate!
