The 40-65 and 40-70 are too long to use in mid west states. They say a cartridge has to be under 1.8 inches.
However, would like to see a clip fed lever action made in 350 Legend, 400 Legend and 30 Carbine.
Make it a reasonable price too.
I hate reading about a new rifle and wanting to purchase one and finding the price to be $1,500 or .$2,000, no thanks
Just like the new Marlin/Ruger model 1895, SS, selling from $1600, $2,000 and even $2,500!!
    Who can afford that?

How about just moving to a Free State where you can shoot what you want?!?

  • Shawn McEwen April 19, 2023, 2:55 am

Nobody should buy this stupid thing. That’ll kill it. Don’t buy the ammo, don’t buy the guns, and then Winchester should take all the brass and primers and put them to better use like making ammo we want and making primers more available.

A new boring round. Something new made that the over one hundred long gun rounds we already have will do.
Nothing to see here for me. Moving on.

Am I the only one left standing who remembers the 351 and 401 Winchester SLR rounds in the 07 and 10 rifles with the plunger on the front to cycle the action?

  • Mike April 17, 2023, 10:42 am

I can’t get ammo for the guns I already have, or the price is way high when found. If I could get primers & powder I would be in better shape. I can cast my own bullets. I don’t think we need new rounds coming to market, as we got lots of old ones that do the same thing as these.

IIts good to see new cartridges introduced. After all, how many 30-30 or 7mm Rem. Mag. rifles do you want to buy? I
Ive seen ammo come back to stores and online.
As far as reloading, primes are skyhigh, prices ranging from $89.95 to $125 for a brick online. They were $30 a brick ack in 2019.
Power still hard to get. At gun shows, powder selling for $40 to $50 a one pound can.
Even brass has doubled in price.
It’s cheaper to buy some factory ammo than reload.

Sick! I like where this is going… Stoked for the 500 Legend… Now, that will be something for which I will give y’all all sorts of money.

  • LJ April 17, 2023, 9:44 am

What will this round do that the venerable 45-70 has been doing for over a 100 years? Or the 30-30? Or a .35 REM? Or a 444 Marlin?

    • James April 17, 2023, 1:30 pm

This round is for the mid west states that allow only straight walked cases under 1.8 inches.
The rounds you listed are too long or bottlenecked.

I’m wondering why Winchester didn’t just reintroduce the 401 WSL but using modern bullets.

From what I’ve read, the 400 Legend uses .400 bullets, same bullets as 40 S&W and 10 mm Auto.

There is a cartridge called the 10mm Magnum. ( It is a longer version of the 10mm Auto)
AMT had it for their semi auto pistol. It gave ballistics similar to the 41 Magnum.

I’d guess that the next Legend Cartridge will be a 475 Legend, as there are already several 45 cartridges, like 450 Bushmaster and 458 Socom.

As far as straight walked cartridges for rifles, how about making rifles in:
      44 AutoMag
      45 Win. Mag.
      475 Wildey
      50 AE

Now these would have some power in rifles. They would beat out the 30-30 and similar rounds.

Also, Henry, Marlin, bring out lever action rifles in the following cartridges
      357 Maximum
      357-44 B&D
      357-454 Casull
      375 SuperMag
      414 SuperMag
      445 SuperMag
      475 Linebaugh

Why not just bring back the .40-65 or the 40-70?
