Description: From its domicile in the Mississippi North Central Hills comes this Parker 20 gauge. Manufacturer was Parker Brothers, Makers, Meriden, Conn., so marked on the barrel rib. From its 149000 range serial number, it was manufactured 1908. Construction is Vulcan Steel metal, so marked, walnut stock and forend, and factory bakelite butt plate. Chambering is 20 gauge, originally 2 1/2 inch, but the forcing cones appear to be at the 3 inch mark. Barrels are 26 1/4 inches, probably down from an original 28 inch length. Muzzle diameters measure .597 left tube and .608 right tube, Modified and Improved. Cut is laterally equal, but vertically with a couple degrees backward on the lower side. Sight system is solid rib, and bead sight was never reinstalled, probably because the Delta quail hunter lacked drilling equipment. Bores show light pitting in the rear areas forward of the chamber, but clean and smooth bores in the forward section. Water table marking shows the patent dates, 4 dates 1887 to 1905; V and enclosed VH stamping above and below the serial number. Lug marking has the O frame designation, matching serial number, and encircled V, then 3 1 adjacent on the barrel’s plate area. Forend iron has matching number, as does the lower tang. Forend iron exterior bears only the 1878 patent date. VH, of course, has single block extractor and hammers reset on the breech motion. .300 smooth face triggers pull at 5 pounds vicinity with minimal creep. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches from front trigger face to butt plate. Stock drop is original 1 1/2 inches by 2 5/8 inches, with no right hand cast. This shotgun will be southpaw friendly, then. Weight empty is 6 pounds 1 ounce, centered at the chambers. Overall length is 42 3/8 inches. Finish was original polished surface blued and case colored, and remains intact but only in the protected areas. Surface is laregly gun metal gray with heavy brown freckling and splotching. Wood finish is glossy with weak checkering from multiple refinishes. Shield and buttplate are intact, but well worn. The only crack we see is 1/2 inch hairline from the top tang backwards, with no separation. Forend edge is drawn inwards on the left side’s rear. Note the brass brad reinforcement on the left side stock behind the receiver, and reinforcing screw embedded on the right side corresponding area. We rate this 20 gauge Parker at 10 percent, perhaps 20 percent, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. We estimate that with an additional $2500 or so invested in having it professionally restored, a person would own a $10,000 shotgun. We’re offering the 20 gauge Parker VH in the photos for only $ 2595.00. >> $30 USPS Priority, Insured, Lower 48; $50 to AK, HI, or PR.
