Description:

From a mid-west sale, a half stock Antique eastern style 36 caliber Percussion Rifle (this rifle probably started life as a full stock). The wood is a reddish brown and is aged to a uniform color and is full of marvelous old repairs using pieces of brass plate (some formed in compound curves) (see photos). The stock has a three piece patch box in good functional condition, with "Patented Mar 1st 1870" etched on the lid (see photos) German silver nose cap, 2 steel thimbles, brass trigger guard and crescent butt plate. The metal finish is a mottled brown patina (see photos). The gun is 51" over all length with a 38" octagon barrel stamped POSTLEY & NELSON at the muzzle (see photos). What I can see of the bore looks dark; I have not cleaned this gun. The ram rod appears original to the rifle. There is a fixed rear sight and a blade front sight. The trigger and lock function as they should. The lock is stamped Goulcher (see photos). At the sale they said this rifle was made by Postley & Nelson, a Pittsburgh Pa. firm operating in the mid 1800's (see photo of markings). The repairs are 100 years old, form a time when a rifle was an important part of life and was worth repairing. The brass plate repairs are flush inlet in the to wood of the stock with incredible craftsmanship. Despite the repairs the stock is rock solid and it is obvious the rifle saw extensive use post repair. The repair work makes this gun a desirable piece of American Gun Maker history. The lock functions as it should, the bore is clear and the double set triggers have a very hair trigger. I can not guarantee a gun this old will shoot however it appears, with a little freshening up, this gun could be back in the field or on the target range. Everything appears old and original to my untrained eye but since I have no way to guarantee the origins or age of this gun I am offering it with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, if it does not live up to your expectations in any way return it for a full and speedy refund including your return shipping (see my feedback). We trade guns. No reserve.
