This listing is for the exact shotgun in the photos. From its original home domicile on the edge of the Mississippi Delta comes this outstanding optimized specimen of the legendary model of 1912. Manufacturer was Winchester Olin of New Haven, CT. From its 1335000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1953. Barrel marking left side reads Made in New Haven, Conn., U.S. of America / Winchester Proof Steel – Winchester / Trade Mark – Model 12- 12 ga. – 2 3/4 Cham / Full. Barrel’s receiver extension and receiver itself bear matching numbers. Barrel is 30 inches, chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells only. Choke is .6945 muzzle tapered Full, and so marked. Type is pump or slide action shotgun without any disconnector. Sight system is steel supported Ray Bar type high visibility fiber optic, with 12 post, .322 wide Ventilated Rib that sits .27 inch above the barrel at midsection. Marking on left side of rib reads, Simmons Gun Specialties Inc., Kansas City, MO. Stock drop from the rib is 1 3/8 by 2 1/4 inches, with a very mild 1/2 inch right hand cast. Length of pull is 14 1/16 inches from the .250 smooth trigger face to the end of the Winchester Repeating Arms black composite butt plate. Trigger pulls at 7 pounds with minimal felt creep and moderate overtravel. Weight empty is 7 pounds 13 ounces, centered at the breech face. Overall length is 49 1/4 inches. Forend is original factory with lateral serrations; and buttstock is smooth field type. Finish is polished surface blued metal excepting the matte magazine tube, with polished chrome bolt and shell carrier, with semi gloss oil finish on the walnut. Finish was executed by Simmons Gun Specialties some time prior to 1965, when they moved from Kansas City to Olathe, attest the rib marking. Surface detractions on this shotgun are minimal, only a couple of small residual mars on the lower left side of the buttstock, carry over from its pre-re-finish condition; and faint edge wear on the magazine tube. We estimate it has been fired fewer than 50 times since it was refinished. We rate it as Excellent / Professional Refinish, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Lettering is strong throughout as the photos will bear out. Bore and chamber are bright and clean. Replacement pricing on a Simmons Customized Model 12 in 1964 would have been around $200.
