The Soviets designed the AK-47 in 1947, and upgraded it to the AK-74 In 1974. Inexpensive and simple, the AK-47/74 family is the world's most popular modern military design, with production in excess of 100 million. Its reputation for ruggedness, reliability and ease of field maintenance is also legendary. IWI/IMI is the long-time armorer for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the creator of such icons as Uzi & Tavor rifles. The IDF knows guns, and its standards are high. Their spin on the AK was the Galil, originally designed for IDF field use, and now also used by many other countries. The Ace G2 is the result of 50+ years of evolution of the design. NRA evaluators have reported Ace's shooting sub-MOA. The gun's high velocity, low recoil 5.45x39 mm Soviet rd, roughly similar to the 5.56 NATO, strikes a good balance between power and weight. Galil Aces, based on superb IWI main components, including receiver and barrel, and finished with meticulous craftsmanship to comply with US import law, are some of the highest quality sporting AK-types guns out there. IWI treats the 5.45x39 version as a limited edition.
This rifle is all-black. The steel upper is matte black, as are the rest of the metal and polymer components, finished to take the extremely harsh environments encountered by the IDF. This gun has a free-floating16” chrome lined, cold hammer forged, chrome-moly steel barrel with 1:7.5” twist. Chrome lining handles surplus corrosive ammunition without harm. This rifle accepts PMAG AK-74 mags--1 30-rd mag is included. The furniture consists of a Magpul CTR M4-compatible side-folding, adjustable telescoping stock; Magpul CTR/MOE cheek riser; free-float M-LOK handguard; and checkered pistol grip. A full-length Picatinny top rail makes it easy to mount your choice of optics/sights.An AIM Sport red/green illuminated reticle reflex sight with mount is included. The Ace trigger is an improved version of that found on the Galil sniper variant—a 2-stage unit after the M1 Garand with a smooth and light (4-5 lb) pull. To ensure a much greater level of accuracy than is possible with standard AK designs, the gas system is decoupled from the barrel and handguard to dampen vibrations, and the extra-rigid receiver top stiffens the action and provides a stable sight plane that doesn't lose zero. The reciprocating charging handle is on the left, and the mag release and safety are ambi.
