Smith & Wesson began production of its 69 series pistols in 1983 with their Mini, numbered model 469. These little guns were so accurate and reliable their features wound up on most of S&Ws big guns for the next 25 years, or before the age of full fledged plastic. The 469 is one of Smith & Wesson’s best pistols ever, with more safety features than anything else on the market. Type is blowback action semi automatic. Construction is matte blue carbon steel slide assembly and internal parts combined with a lightweight alloy frame. Barrel is distinctive knurled muzzle for consistent bushing fit, 5 groove right hand 1:18.75 stainless, 3 1/2 inch. Slide has serrations forward of the safety levers, .925 width. Note the full length steel guide rod. Sights are combat type, with slide integral serrated low profile front and round shouldered dovetailed black anodized rear. Frame is type 2, square serrated face trigger guard with serrated front strap. Grips are replacement ivory colorized polymer, very close to the original design. Trigger is .304 smooth faced satin stainless, with matching .265 Bobbled Hammer. Magazine is steel bodied factory 12 round; so capacity if 12+1 rounds of 9mm Luger caliber ammunition. Magazines interchange between models 469, 669, 6906 and similar. Frame thickness is 1.02 inch. Overall length is 6 7/8 inches from muzzle to grip frame strut, with a height of 5 1/2 inches from the top of the rear sight to the end of the finger rest magazine floor plate. Weight empty is 26.5 ounces, with center of gravity at the magazine release. The Smith & Wesson 469 Mini is a good feeling, well balanced, accurate pistol. It also has a lever main safety for right handed shooter, as well as a firing pin safety and magazine safety. It will not fire single shot if the magazine is removed. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent, 12 pound vicinity; and the single action pull measures about 6 pounds with minimal felt creep. This particular 469 served with law enforcement in New Jersey. From its TAA3200 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1984, second year of production. Surface detractions are minimal, only faint amounts of edge whitening with a few tiny freckles on the left side of its slide. We rate it as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate; but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. We estimate this pistol has been fired fewer than 2000 times for annual qualification, no rounds at all for a 469 Smith & Wesson.
