New lower price as of 1/21/24. .243 Winchester caliber. This one is a Flaig's Custom. There is information on the net about them, I will provide what I have learned and I recommend you do your own research. Flaig's was a custom shop in Pennsylvania that was known for doing sporterizing conversions, mostly Mausers and Sako's. They were known to use Douglas barrels. Most of the work they did went to wealthy purchasers in South Africa and Europe. Only 15 - 20% of their customizations were for US customers. The Flaig's Sako's I have seen have some things in common, they have FLAIG'S stamped on the barrel, and for the Sakos they will have customized stocks that often have the typical rose cap on the fore end tip slanted the opposite way as compared to the brand Sakos, and they will have a different checkering pattern on them, one that resembles the Winchester featherlights. The stocks will come in differing varieties of wood and staining, but they all have one thing in common and that is that they are gorgeous. This one has the typical rosewood grip cap, most have a pattern of a tree as an ivory inlay, this one has a 3/8 inch circle. There are some sporadic handling marks on this one, but they aren't numerous, and they are light. I will provide high-res photos of them. The only significant downside of this stock is that it appears to have had some kind of temperature crazing occur deep in the varnish in its past, and to fix it someone had a new varnish coat applied over it. The newer varnish is professional, it's thick, glossy, and smooth, and looks factory. The appearance of this gun is still beautiful from 2 feet away, but if you hold the gun close and look into the varnish, you can see the crazing present deep down inside. This shows up in several of my close-up photographs. I have compensated for this by pricing around 300 dollars under what should be the market value of this rifle. An L579 Flaig's in 243 sold on this site for 1850, it was item #973690922. The metal blue-ing is all there and deep black. The magazine cover has a single tiny scratch in it, the trigger guard has one tiny smudge in the finish that is only in the surface, and the bolt has a small area of blue-ing loss in the turning radius which is typical to use. These are the only imperfections. The gun shows well as a high-end contribution to anyone's collection. I will provide several high-res photos to a SERIOUS buyer.
