Colt 1991® Series SERIES 80™ FIRING SYSTEM The Colt 1991 Series is a direct descendant of the original Colt M1911. A long trigger, flat mainspring housing and original style recoil spring system remain from the original M1911 design. Upgrades from the original include white dot sights and a lowered ejection port for extra reliability. It still remains “the standard” that everyone tries to imitate, but no one duplicates. The 1991 Commander has a solid aluminum trigger, not a skeleton trigger like those found on most 1911's. The trigger is longer than that found on original 1911A1 models for those who like a longer trigger pull. The sights are similar to the original 1911A1 sights, but not exactly. They're partridge style sights, which look nearly like the original, but give a slightly better sight picture. The hammer isn't a spur hammer, but is instead a bobbed combat hammer, which is more functional for a combat/carry pistol. The grip safety is contoured, unlike the original flat grip safety, again to provide better functionality for a combat or carry pistol. Colt didn't start producing stainless steel 1911 pistols until the 1970's, so this stainless 1991 Commander is a mix of old and new. It has the nostalgic feel of the original 1911A1, but the stainless finish provides corrosion protection. The grips are checkered composite rubber, for longer wear as well as comfort.
