First introduced in 1975, CZ led the way with its CZ75 as the premiere Wonder Nine, as we called them back then. Czech engineers took John M. Browning’s 1935 Hi-Power design, strengthened it, and developed a smooth and accurate masterpiece in double action. As demanding shooters recognized the quality and accuracy of CZ pistols, the Czech Company finally introduced a lightweight, compact variant. This is a very early, perhaps First Year Production CZ75 P01 Compact. The CZ-75 was always traditional double- and single action auto. Manufacturer was always Czeska Zbrojovka of the Czech Republic, with CZ-USA as the importer. This P01 variant, in two departures from its parent, has a firing pin safety; its frame lever, however, is a decocker only. This variant cannot be cocked and locked; it stays always ready for double action firing. Frame construction is lightweight alloy, so Gross Vehicle Weight is 27.2 ounces, down fully 10 ounces from the parent pistol. Hammer is .230 width CZ Commander style with serrations with .319 smooth faced combat trigger. Sights are 3 dot, dovetailed rear and pin anchored front, bridged by a serrated rib area atop the slide. Barrel is 3.9 inch; height is 5 inches from magazine base plate to top of the rear sight; 7 inches length from the edge of the grip frame strut to the muzzle; middle thickness 1.10 inch. Caliber, of course, is 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9x19, call it what you will, The 9mm. Magazines are California Compliant 10 rounders, down from the standard 14 round variants. Finish is durable CZ Poly Coat in dark OD Green coloration. Grip panels are CZ logo checkered black polymer. This pistol comes to us from its exclusive civilian owner in our home McNairy County. It is in its original box with test target, Czech warranty statement, cleaning rod, disassembly tool, and five plastic dummy rounds that serve for snap caps and chamber protectors. Surface detractions are negligible; we rate this pistol as Near Mint in Box, 98 percent vicinity, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. It is certainly excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. From our knowledge of its owner and from its condition, we estimate this CZ75 P01 has been fired fewer than 100 rounds, perhaps fewer than 50. Its 06 date code, it was manufactured in the Third Year of Production. This coloration variant appears to be discontinued.
