Description: Fox, Year 1910, 12ga, 7lbs 4oz, SN#14441

The C Grade Fox is one of the most handsome of the A.H. Fox graded guns, with its finely cut English scroll, game scene engraving, nicely engraved trigger guard, and European walnut stocks figured well on both sides. The C Grade was the first level of decoration that is considered a high-grade Fox. There are many guns offered for sale so how do you know which one to buy? Most sellers do not provide any information on which to base a decision. A shotgunner should want to know specifics…stock dimensions, choke constrictions, minimum wall thicknesses, weight, balance point, trigger pulls…in addition to what the gun looks like in the pics. In fact, most of the photos of guns for sale show no real details of the gun. Don’t you want to know what you are buying? A lot of bad things happen to vintage guns over time, and most offered for sale at low prices have a reason for being “cheap”, like cracked stocks, dangerously thin barrels, bad stock dimensions making them impossible to shoot well for most shooters, pitted metal, loose ribs, barrels loose on face…the list goes on. Fox graded guns cost a good bit of money, and making wise decisions requires adequate information. This fine A.H. Fox C Grade, sn14441 shipped in 1910, is an exceptional example of a Philly A.H. Fox. The metal and wood finishes are FACTORY ORIGINAL WITH NO RESTORATIONS, the wood is some of the nicest figured European walnut you will ever see on a C Grade, with no cracks and excellent checkering and good stock dimensions. The 30” #2 weight Krupp Steel barrels retain 98% factory blue, with excellent mirror bores, factory M/F chokes, reinforced forend loop, tight ribs, and barrels that fit tight to the hinge and breech face with the top lever to the right of center. The 2 ¾” chambers with 1 ½” tapered and lengthened forcing cones were done here in our shop. This service is $360 and produces better patterns and notably less felt recoil, protecting the wood from splits and your shoulder from bruises. YES, WE MEASURE THE BARRELS FOR SAFETY FIRST. The figured walnut stock terminates in a fine Purdey style leather covered pad. YOU WILL FIND THE SPECIFICATIONS IN THE TABLES BELOW. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, HAVING BEEN STRIPPED TO THE SMALLEST PART, ULTRASONIC CLEANED, ALL PARTS SCRUBBED CLEAN, INSPECTED FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED, A $375 SERVICE IN OUR SHOP. Having 4 full-time gunsmiths allow us to properly care for these fine old shotguns, making sure they are tight, mechanically excellent, and ready for decades of trouble-free use. Why would you buy a 100+ year-old gun without knowing it has been serviced properly and guaranteed to be “as represented”? Many of these vintage guns have been “rigged” to seem tight and ready to use until a few boxes of shells go through them, and then they are loose again. Don’t risk this headache!
