Description: From security service in the Caribbean comes this attractive Smith & Wesson .38 Airweight Bodyguard, numbered model 38, without any engineering change suffix. From its 433JXX serial number, it was manufactured in 1983. Manufacturer was Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA, under the final months of Bangor Punta Corporate Ownership. Type is traditional double and single action lightweight pocket revolver. Construction is steel barrel, hammer, trigger, cylinder, and internal parts built into an alloy frame with original factory issue magna type service Grips. Frame is J sized, with round butt grip frame. Chambering is .38 Smith & Wesson Special caliber, not designed for any +P loads. Barrel is 2 inch standard tapered, pinned into the frame. Sights are barrel integral serrated blade front with frame integral fixed notch rear. Cylinder capacity is 5 rounds. Trigger is .240 serrated face, with matching serrated spur hammer. The Bodyguard series, of course, shrouds the hammer to prevent pocket snagging while still allowing single action firing by manually cocking the hammer. Safety system is internal transfer bar. Dimensions are 1.31 inches cylinder thickness; 6 1/2 inches overall length; 4 1/4 inches height; weight 14 ounces empty with center of gravity at the trigger. Trigger pulls at 11 pounds vicinity double action, with 1 or 2 degrees hammer travel after the cylinder times. On single action, the hammer travels 15 degrees after the cylinder times, and single action trigger pull is a crisp original 3 7/8 pounds. Lateral cylinder play is minimal with the trigger relaxed; with the trigger fully depressed there is no lateral play whatsoever. Cylinder face to forcing cone measures .007. Carbon deposits under the top strap and on the cylinder face are minimal. We estimate this revolver was actually fired fewer than 100 times. It served in the Caribbean home jurisdiction of Borinquen Air Station, with its mission of guarding aircraft, boats, and surveillance equipment aimed at Castro’s Cuba and at South- and Central American drug traffickers. Bore and cylinder chambers are all bright and clean. Finish is polished surface blued steel, with matte front sight area, gloss black anodized frame, and color casehardened trigger and hammer. Surface detractions are moderate, principally finish freckles on the bluing, faint edge wear, and wear on the grips. We rate this 2 inch Bodyguard as Very Good, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Model 38s were never all that plentiful. Replacement pricing for the nearest thing to this, a model 36 classic, is $809 on smith-wesson com. We're offering the authentic late Bangor Punta 2 inch model 38 in the photos, however, for only $ 519.00. Not transferable to civilian residents of California or Massachusetts. Add a period correct Grip Adapter for only $27.00. Add your choice of Ivory, Hot Pink, or Black Dura J frame magna size grips only $19.00.
