Description:
Springfield Armory M1 Garand, serial number 27223xx, manufactured March 1944. This Garand has a Springfield 1951 barrel with bright bore. Small parts are mostly Springfield; some are postwar, all are described below and shown in pictures. No import marks.
We test fired this M1 and it performed perfectly, cycling through a full clip, ejecting the clip at the end.
Two M1 enbloc clips and repro sling are included.
Specs:
Receiver: marked “D 28291 32” on leg, heat lot A14. Excellent condition, no pitting, has been refinished.
Barrel: marked “S-A5-51” in op rod slot, also marked “D6353448 41 A148A: on top, with “M” and small crossed cannons stamp. Bore is bright, very good crown and rifling. Chamber is in the white. Chrome pads at gas port.
Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Wear: 1 ¾, Throat Erosion: 4
Barrel band: two-piece flat top with roll pin
Clip latch: late square front type.
Op rod: curved side, marked “D35382 6 SA”, modified. No pitting, has been refinished.
Op rod catch: late type, unmarked
Bullet guide: postwar stamped with notch
Follower: late type, marked “12”
Follower arm: no bevel, unmarked
Follower rod: long fork, riveted
Bolt: marked “D28287-2SA T1”
Sight knobs: elevation marked “LUX”, windage “DRC”
Rear sight cover: late type with ribs
Rear sight aperture: double track
Trigger housing: marked “6528290-SA”
Trigger guard: stamped with stamped hook
Trigger: late type, no extra hole
Hammer: marked “SA 5546008”
Safety: round top, marked “SA 11”
Gas cylinder: narrow sight platform, flat on top of rear ring marked “T”. Gas cylinder group finish is new.
Front sight: .63 wide
Gas cylinder lock: square front type marked “M”
Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type marked “HRA” and “O”
Stock and handguards: used arsenal replacement birch, stained dark and clear coated, has a few minor dents. No cracks or repairs. Exceptionally firm receiver fit/lockup.
Accessories: sling, new repro
