Description: Here is one of the most desirable revolvers ever, the High Standard Double Nine. The Double Nine, of course, was a Western styled revolver that looked like a Single Action but wasn’t. Its only competitor was the H&R 649 type revolvers, and they are desirable as well, just not nearly so much as this one. This double nine was manufactured in 1970, according to its 2280000 range serial number. Manufacturer was High Standard of Hamden Connecticut. Variant is W-106, 5 1/2 blue steel barrel and main frame with alloy grip frame and with factory walnut grips. Barrel is marked High Standard Double Nine Convertible, so this specimen can accept a Long Rifle Cylinder. Cylinder furnished is .22 Magnum only; so we did not get the Long Rifle Cylinder from the original owner’s estate. Capacity, then, is 9 rounds of .22 Winchester Magnum caliber ammunition. It is not advisable to fire Long Rifle caliber cartridges in a Magnum cylinder, because it will burst the case and cause a squib in the barrel. Type is Western Style traditional double and single action revolver. The part that looks like a Single Action’s ejector rod housing actually functions as a cylinder release. Safety mechanism is internal transfer bar; since the hammer is nose type, the trigger has to be fully depressed to allow the firing pin to contact a case head in the chamber. Hammer is .235 serrated spur with white steel sides and blue finish verticals; trigger is matching width and finish, smooth faced. Front sight is factory staked .400 high blade type, with full length frame mounted blue serrated base windage and elevation adjustable rear sight, black blade. Weight empty is 32 ounces, with center of gravity at the forward trigger guard junction, right where it’s supposed to be. This Double Nine’s only surface detractions are minimal, principally faint cylinder rotation marking and cylinder contact marking at a small place on the left side of the frame above the trigger. Grip frame has one small whitened area on its butt edge. We classify this Double Nine as Excellent, since no more than 10 percent of its surfaces are affected in our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically; cylinder times correctly on all nine positions on both double and single action. On double action, the hammer travels an additional 20 to 25 degrees on all nine after the cylinder times into place; and on double action 5 to 10 degrees on all nine. Lateral play to the cylinder is minimal with the trigger relaxed. With the trigger fully depressed, however, there is no movement at all. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap is minimal, only a faint thin streak with no significant depth that traverses 3/4 of the width of the top strap; and from the minimal amount of wear and carbon on the cylinder face, we estimate it has been fired fewer than 100 times. Rear cylinder face shows no evidence that this revolver was ever operated by an idiot; that is, no pinging or evidence of slamming or fanning. Its Shelby County owners were a military family. Bore and cylinder chambers are bright, clean, and excellent. This revolver comes to us from one of our local contractors and traders. Its home domicile was in Memphis; and it was probably sold new by our old friends and heroes at York Arms or Harwood Arms for less than $100.00. We’re offering this very attractive Double Nine for only $ 489.00. Not transferable to civilian residents of California, the District of Colombia, or Massachusetts. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $12 lower 48; $40 AK, HI, PR, USPS Priority. 7 day money back on used items, but No Returns on NIB, Lay-away, or Ammo. Don't let your buddies use your account. Registered user must be the buyer, with his or her own money. Buying firearms and related items for other people can result in felony charges. Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
GA Pay buyers are NOT charged until we confirm we have the item and are ready to ship it. The same thing is true for phone-in, fax-in, and mail-in payments. In this respect, and in several others, Guns America outshines all its competitors. This is the best firearms website there is, hands down.
