Here is the all time favorite among Turkey Shooters throughout the country. Not the gobbling turkey, but informal long-range shotgun competition among rural folk. This is the Winchester model 37 Steelbilt Single Shot in 32 inch. Manufacturer was Winchester Olin of New Haven, CT., and the 37 was discontinued in 1963. Word is, that the 32 inchers were for export only. That was the case with this specimen; it has been serialized and stamped on its barrel’s underside by Century Arms. We estimate it was manufactured around 1950. Construction is entirely steel metal parts, and American Walnut Stock and forend with polymer butt plate. Chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch shells only. Barrel is 32 inch full choke barrel. Interior muzzle diameter mikes at .695, but this shotgun has an internal taper to its muzzle end bore that produces superb long-range patterns. Buttstock measures its original 14 inches, including the original factory Winchester buttplate. Overall length is 48 inches; weight is 6 pound 7 ounces, with center of gravity at the front of the chamber. Finish is original blue steel and semi gloss walnut. Surface detractions are moderate to extensive. Barrel shows substantial original bluing, but with perhaps 50 percent toning and freckling. Receiver has 70% original bluing by our estimate, even better with trigger, hammer, and lever. Walnut shows extensive scouring and pecking, but with only a 3 inch crack at the buttstock heel that we have reglassed. We rate this 37 as Good Condition, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Bore shows some etchy waves, but no pitting. This is the first 32 inch 37 we’ve had in over 20 years. We’re offering this (informal) competition grade Truman Era Winchester for only $ 419.00.
