The Remington Woodsmaster series semi-automatic rifles have ruled the fields and deer woods since their introduction in 1955. Here is a worthy specimen from the deer woods of McNairy County Tennessee, west of U.S. 45. From its BN Barrel Code, it was manufactured in January of 1966. Manufacturer was Remington Arms of Ilion, NY. Type is gas operated semi automatic high powered rifle. Chambering is .30-06 Springfield caliber. Construction is steel barrel, receiver, magazine, bolt, and trigger, with anodized alloy trigger housing and polymer action port shield. Barrel is 22 inch 1:10 right hand 6 groove. Sights are screw on two piece serrated ramp front with dovetailed blackened brass blade; and screw windage, step elevation adjustable early 700 type screw on all steel rear sight. All 742 receivers are drilled and tapped for Weaver 61A size scope or optics bases or see through rings. This one sports a mid 1970s set of unmarked see-throughs, probably early Williams manufacture. Scope is a Taiwan made 3x9x32 Tasco with Duplex type crosshairs. Sling is a Torel suede surface leather, made in Yoakum, Texas, also mid 1970s. Magazine is original Remington 4 shot, 4 + 1 fully loaded capacity. Forend bolt is mismatched BDL Michaels with sling swivel. Metal finish is blued steel throughout, with matching black anodized trigger assembly. Stock and forend are press checkered American Walnut, with standard buttstock whose length of pull measures at 13 3/8 inches from the .225 smooth steel trigger face to the end of the factory butt plate. Gross weight empty is 8 pounds 10 ounces, center of gravity at the bolt face. Surface detractions are moderate on this rifle, principally even wear occasional finish freckling on its steel surfaces, and scouring on the walnut. We rate this 742 as Very Good, 75 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Internal bolt rails are smooth and strong. We estimate this rifle has been fired fewer than 200 times. We’re offering it for only $ 459.00.
